Ghost of Yōtei’s Digital Deluxe horse — how to get it and what it does
Ghost of YoteiWhere the horse choice appears, how the Deluxe option works, and why it doesn’t change gameplay.

The Digital Deluxe horse is a cosmetic mount option that appears during the early “Old Trails” quest if you own the Digital Deluxe Edition. It’s a brown coat variant that sits alongside the standard picks. Functionally, all horses perform the same: no speed, stamina, or handling differences. Your selection becomes your permanent mount for the rest of the campaign.
How to unlock the horse choice (Old Trails quest)
You’ll learn about “Old Trails” after arriving at Atsu’s home. She recalls visiting stables west of the river—track that point of interest on your map.

At the stables, speak to the settler to trigger a short scene. Lord Saito’s men arrive; you can hide in bushes to pick them off stealthily or take them head-on in melee. After the fight, follow the merchant to the nearby pond to relive Atsu’s memories in a flashback:
- Inspect horse manure and follow the tracks to the other side of the pond.
- Reach the small mound where Atsu’s father, Kengo, mentions a “charm.”
- Climb the rock formation and wait for Kengo’s dialogue to finish.
- Return to the stable master to end the flashback.
Back in the present, Atsu whistles and four horses gallop into the clearing. This is where you choose your mount.

Horse options and differences
Available choices at the clearing:
- Dapple Horse
- Black Horse
- White Horse
- Brown Horse (Digital Deluxe only)
There are no gameplay differences among these options; pick based on appearance. The horse you select remains with you for the rest of the story.

Name options and trophy unlock
After picking your horse, you can choose one of three names:
- Shimaki (Tornado)
- Mochizuki (Full Moon)
- Homura (Flame)
Completing “Old Trails” and naming your mount unlocks the “Naming a Friend” trophy.
Nearby rewards you shouldn’t miss
Before leaving the area, return to the fallen tree trunk from Atsu’s flashback. Inside, you’ll find the Charm of Bountiful Harvest, which increases the amount of wood, flowers, and plants gained while foraging. A Hot Spring is also close by—use it to permanently boost maximum health.

What’s in the Digital Deluxe Edition (and where to buy)
The Digital Deluxe Edition bundles several in-game items alongside the horse, plus the full game. Here’s a concise look at each edition and what stands out:
Edition | Price (USD) | Notable inclusions |

If you specifically want the brown horse and its matching saddle, you’ll need the Digital Deluxe Edition. You can purchase it directly from the PlayStation Store listing for Ghost of Yōtei Digital Deluxe Edition at store.playstation.com.
Choose with your eyes, not your stats
Whether you pick the dapple, black, white, or the Digital Deluxe brown horse, the experience won’t change mechanically—only the look will. Make your choice during “Old Trails,” grab the nearby charm and Hot Spring upgrade, and settle on the name that fits your journey with Atsu.
