Quick Info
  • Google launched Circle to Search with the Pixel 8 series in 2023 and expanded it to more Android devices later.
  • Now, Google is rolling song identification to Circle to Search.
  • The feature is gradually rolling out and you need the 15.32.37.28 version of the Google app.

Google's Circle to Search is undoubtedly a cult favorite feature. With Circle to Search, you can circle (or highlight, tap, scribble) anything on your screen to get more information about it. And now the company's surely showing some love to it.

The recent love comes in the form of song identification in Circle to Search. While the feature was rumored to be coming, there was no mention of it at the recent Made by Google event.

However, a Redditor spotted the feature on their Galaxy S23. You need the 15.32.37.28 version of the Google app to identify songs with Circle to Search. However, as with other Google features, song identification is still rolling out and it's possible that it won't appear for you right away even if you are on the correct app version.

To use song identification, all you need to do is bring up the Circle to Search interface by long-pressing the home button or the navigation bar on your Android device. Then, tap the 'Music Note' button on the Circle to Search toolbar. The interface for identifying the song will appear. You can then play the song, or even sing or hum it and Circle to Search will identify the song for you.

Good news! Circle to search just got updated: Song search is now available for all S23 series and other flagships that have the CtS feature. Congratulations!

Notably, it isn't something new to be able to identify songs. Countless apps exist to get the job done and one of them happens to be Google Assistant itself. But with the integration of the feature in Circle to Search, you need one less app on your phone for the same. Also, with the ease with which you can access Circle to Search on supported smartphones, it'll be easier to reach for it than any other app when you're in dire need of identifying a song.
