High on Life 2 — Every Step of the Rescue Your Dad From the Cult Mission

The "Rescue Your Dad From the Cult" mission in High on Life 2 is one of the meatier story quests, spanning multiple combat encounters, a new weapon pickup, platforming puzzles, and a three-phase final boss. It kicks off immediately after your family dinner at the Spaceforest Cafe gets crashed by a gang called The Gluttons, and it doesn't let up until you've escaped in the RV with your whole family in tow.

Quick answer: You need to defeat Tiffany and The Gluttons, travel to Birch Springs Ranch, find and free your dad from the Ego Chamber using your new weapon Jan, rescue Ted from the lodge, then beat Gwendolyn Birch across all three of her boss phases before escaping in the RV.

Defeat The Gluttons and Leave the Spaceforest Cafe

Your dinner is interrupted by The Gluttons, and you'll need to fight them off right there in the restaurant. The regular enemies go down quickly, but Tiffany is the real threat — she's a tanky mini-boss with high health and hard-hitting attacks. Keep your distance, use the trees and elevated terrain for cover, and focus fire on her while clearing out the smaller enemies when they get too close.

Tiffany retreats once her health drops to roughly 10–15 percent, ending the encounter automatically. After the fight, head out through the door and wait for your family to catch up. You'll all pile into the RV and fly to Wyoming, where the cult compound awaits.

Gain Access to Birch Springs Ranch

Once you arrive, walk straight down the path toward the main gate. Two guards will stop you and ask a question: "Which one of you is the most pitiful?" The dialogue options are Travis, Travis, Travis, or "I can't think of anyone." Every named option is Travis, so just pick any of them, and the guards let you through.

Continue along the path until you reach the lodge building. This completes the "Enter the Lodge" objective and transitions into the next phase of the mission.

Find Out Where Your Dad Is

Inside the lodge, head through the right-side corridor until you find Ted, your dad's best friend, who introduced him to the cult. Talk to Ted multiple times and exhaust his dialogue options — he'll eventually point you toward Gwendolyn.

Follow the objective marker across to the opposite side of the building, through the lobby, and into a room with large windows. Speak to Gwendolyn and ask about your father. She reveals he's been confined to the Ego Chamber out in the forest as punishment.

Pick Up Jan and Reach the Ego Chamber

Leave the lodge and follow the trail toward the coast. On the way, you'll be interrupted by Jan, who crash-lands from the sky in a pod. Her pod is stuck, so shoot all four targets on it to dismantle the casing and free her. Interact with Jan to add her to your weapon arsenal — she's Travis's wife, and the two of them work together as a dual-wielding akimbo setup.

With Jan in hand, you'll find the path ahead is blocked. Use Jan's ability to shoot the Slime Drive platform a couple of times, raising it into the air. Take a running start, jump onto the elevated Slime Drive, then leap from there onto the path ahead. This platforming section introduces Jan's core mechanic of lifting objects.

The Ego Chamber itself is a yellow-painted, triangular shack. The front door is locked, so jump up and enter through the open window on the roof. Inside, your dad is tied to a chair. Cut him free, then shoot the two enemies who rush in to stop you. Kill any creatures that spawn from the defeated foes, then leave Lizzie with your dad and head back toward the lodge.

Fight Back to the Lodge and Enter the Chapel

The return trip is significantly harder than the walk out. Unlike your peaceful stroll to the Ego Chamber, the path back is now crawling with enemies. Stay mobile and don't let yourself get surrounded — the narrow paths make it easy to get boxed in if you're not careful.

Once you reach the lodge area, clear all the nearby enemies to trigger the next objective. Regroup with your mom, then Lizzie and your dad will arrive and direct everyone inside the main lodge building. A family argument plays out, after which you'll head deeper into the building to search for Ted.

Find Ted and Defeat the Big Mutant

Push through the winding hallway, fighting off monsters along the way, until you reach a large room with Ted's clothes on the floor. Interact with the clothes to trigger a mini-boss fight against the Big Mutant.

The Jan and Travis akimbo guns are extremely effective here. Use the large walls and furniture in the room as cover — keep obstacles between you and the Big Mutant, then dodge around corners when it closes the gap. Unload your shots during these brief windows of safety. The boss hits hard but moves predictably, so maintaining distance is the key to a clean fight.

After defeating the Big Mutant, exit through the cracked windows and cross the fields to the Completion Hall, a large barn nearby. Inside, you'll attempt to interrupt a ceremony between Ted and Gwendolyn. Things go badly, Ted dies, and Gwendolyn transforms into the mission's final boss.

Note: If you're hunting the "Dr. Gurgula Will Return" achievement, don't leave through the broken window after the Big Mutant fight. Instead, turn around and look at the back left corner of the room for a small vent. Jump onto the nearby bookshelf, then over to a small platform to reach the vent. Inside, you'll find one of Dr. Gurgula's hidden transmissions — and this one is missable.

Defeat Gwendolyn Birch — Phase One

Gwendolyn's transformed form has a clear weak point: a pulsing pink blob. When she grabs you, shoot the blob to break free and deal massive damage. She also fires projectiles that stick to you — knock them off with melee attacks.

Travis and Jan get separated during this fight. Keep as much distance between you and Gwendolyn as possible while staying within Travis's effective range. Use Travis to target the blister whenever it's exposed. Repeat the cycle of dodging, shooting projectiles off yourself, and hammering the weak spot to end Phase One.

Defeat Gwendolyn Birch — Phase Two

Reunite Travis and Jan, then head out into the cornfield. Gwendolyn is still alive. Dodge and weave through the corn while dealing damage until her weak spot becomes exposed again, then pour shots into it.

Partway through this phase, Gwendolyn starts scattering green projectiles across the battlefield. Avoid the green blobs on the ground while continuing to damage her and dodge her attacks. Keep using the Travis and Jan combo to capitalize on every exposed weak spot. One more cycle of this, and Phase Two ends.

Defeat Gwendolyn Birch — Phase Three

As you wait for the RV to arrive, Gwendolyn resurrects for a third and final round. The strategy remains fundamentally the same: backpedal, fire with Jan and Travis, and wait for her weak spot to appear. Maintaining careful spacing is critical — she's aggressive, but the high damage output from the dual weapons makes each opening count.

Once you deplete her health for the third time, follow the path to the edge of the field and jump into the RV. The mission ends with a cutscene featuring Travis's speech to Jan and one last surprise from Gwendolyn.

Mission Rewards

Completing "Rescue Your Dad From the Cult" earns you 4,000 Pesos from the funds jar. You also get the Jan and Travis dual weapon upgrade along with additional weapon upgrades. Your dad, mom, and Lezduit all join the crew aboard the RV, opening up new story possibilities going forward.

This mission sits roughly in the middle of High on Life 2's main story, slotting in after the "Meet Your Mom at Spaceforest Cafe" quest and before "Pick Up Supplies From Party City." If you've been putting it off, the weapon upgrades alone make it worth tackling sooner rather than later.
