Honkai Star Rail's Elation Trailblazer Wields Lightsaber Nunchucks — And It's Glorious

Honkai Star Rail's Elation Trailblazer Wields Lightsaber Nunchucks — And It's Glorious

The Trailblazer's fifth Path form has arrived in the Honkai Star Rail version 4.2 closed beta, and the Elation MC (commonly shortened to EMC) might have the most entertaining combat animations the game has ever given its protagonist. The weapon of choice? A pair of glowsticks that morph into lightsabers, nunchucks, and a spinning helicopter blade — sometimes all within the same attack sequence.

Quick answer: The Elation Trailblazer's leaked animations show three distinct weapon forms — concert-style glowsticks, dual lightsabers, and nunchaku — used across the Skill, Ultimate, and Technique. The animations are identical for both Stelle and Caelus, with only minor posing differences.

EMC weapon forms and animation breakdown

The Elation Trailblazer's core weapon is a pair of glowsticks whose handles are shaped like the Astral Express. These sticks seamlessly transform mid-combat depending on the ability being used. During the Skill animation, the Trailblazer extends the glowsticks into full-length lightsabers — complete with a hum that closely mimics the iconic ambient sound from Star Wars when a blade is idling. The Trailblazer then performs a Darth Maul-style dual-blade helicopter spin, and the animation even includes helicopter sound effects layered on top.

The nunchaku form appears during a separate attack sequence, where the Trailblazer shifts into a Bruce Lee fighting stance. Japanese-style sound effects accompany the nunchuck flourishes, and the ending pose directly references Lee's classic guard position from his martial arts films. It's deliberately over-the-top, which fits the Elation Path's entire identity as the domain of Aha, the Aeon of joy and absurdity.

The Technique animation has drawn its own attention. The Trailblazer performs what appears to be wotagei — the choreographed glowstick waving that fans do at Japanese idol concerts — though many players have jokingly mistaken the pose for a dab.

During the Ultimate, the Trailblazer uses the glowsticks in a drumming sequence before launching into a flashy finisher. Both Stelle and Caelus flash a grin during this animation, leaning into the playful energy the Elation Path demands.

Stelle vs. Caelus animation differences

Since the Preservation Trailblazer, HoYoverse has largely kept Stelle and Caelus animations in parity, and the Elation form continues that trend. The core attack choreography, weapon transformations, and timing are identical between the two models. However, there are subtle posing differences worth noting.

AnimationDifference
Skill activationSlightly different landing and flying poses when viewed side by side
Ultimate activation poseMinor difference in how each character holds their glowsticks before the sequence begins
Ultimate ending stanceCaelus takes a wider, more committed stance; Stelle's is slightly more reserved
Facial expressionsFunctionally the same, though community opinion is split on which model sells the goofiness better

This mirrors the pattern set by Harmony MC and Remembrance MC, both of which shared nearly all animations between the two protagonists. The Destruction Trailblazer remains the last form where the two had meaningfully distinct combat choreography.

EMC kit concerns in the 4.2 beta

While the animation work has been almost universally praised, the Elation Trailblazer's actual kit has generated significant concern during this beta phase. In its current state, EMC functions as a sub-DPS and support hybrid for Elation teams, but early testing suggests the kit overlaps heavily with Yao Guang — a limited 5-star character who already fills a similar role but does it with teamwide buffs and the ability to activate every ally's Elation Skill, not just a single target's.

The core issue is differentiation. Previous Trailblazer forms carved out clear niches even alongside their limited-character counterparts. Harmony MC (HMC) offered a higher Super Break multiplier and stronger personal Super Break damage than Fugue, making HMC the preferred pick in certain sustainless compositions even after Fugue and later Dahlia entered the picture. Remembrance MC (RMC) brought action advance, CRIT DMG buffs, true damage, and strong SP generation — a toolkit versatile enough to remain relevant alongside Cyrene and other Remembrance supports.

EMC, by contrast, offers higher personal damage than Yao Guang and can generate the "Certified Banger" mechanic frequently, but its Ultimate buff is single-target rather than teamwide, and it only triggers one ally's Elation Skill rather than the full team's. Among the three current Elation DPS options — Sparxie, SW999, and Evanescia — only Evanescia teams appear to want EMC as a best-in-slot teammate alongside Yao Guang. The other two compositions prefer Yao Guang paired with Sparkle or Sparxie instead.

EMC's kit is still in beta and subject to change. HMC received meaningful buffs between its first beta version and live release, so adjustments remain possible before version 4.2 goes live.

Community-requested buffs

Beta feedback has coalesced around a few specific asks. The most common suggestion is adding action advance to the Ultimate, which would give EMC a mechanical advantage that Yao Guang doesn't provide and would allow Elation teams to drop Sparkle in certain configurations. Another popular request is increasing EMC's personal damage output to Sparxie-level sub-DPS territory, compensating for the lack of teamwide buffing with raw contribution to team damage. Some players have also suggested baking a 10–15% vulnerability debuff into the base kit, which would stack with EMC's Eidolon 4 to provide a meaningful teamwide benefit distinct from Yao Guang's buff profile.

The precedent for post-beta reworks exists. HMC was considered underwhelming in its initial beta version and received substantial changes before its official release. Whether EMC will receive similar treatment remains to be seen, but the beta feedback window is still open.

Why the animations matter beyond the meta

Even players who have no plans to invest in Elation teams have expressed excitement about EMC's animations. The Elation Path, thematically tied to Aha's love of comedy and spectacle, gives HoYoverse's animation team license to go wild — and the result is a Trailblazer form that references Bruce Lee, Darth Maul's double-bladed lightsaber, the Star Wars Rebels Inquisitors' infamous helicopter sabers, concert culture wotagei, and Michelangelo's nunchucks from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, all within a single character's moveset.

The glowstick handles being modeled after the Astral Express is a small but appreciated lore detail, tying the weapon back to the Trailblazer's journey even as the animations lean fully into absurdity. The lightsaber extension even produces the correct ambient hum, and the nunchaku sequences include Japanese martial arts sound effects for added flair.

For many players, the animation quality alone is enough to justify building EMC regardless of meta placement. The Trailblazer is a free unit, and having a visually spectacular option for a second Elation team in endgame content holds real practical value — especially for free-to-play accounts that may not have access to Yao Guang.

The version 4.2 beta is still ongoing, and kit numbers can shift substantially before the patch goes live. But regardless of where EMC lands on tier lists, the Elation Trailblazer's animations represent some of the most inventive and entertaining work HoYoverse has done with the protagonist — a character who has now wielded a bat, a lance, a shield, a hat and feather pen, and a pair of shape-shifting concert glowsticks across five different Path forms.
