iOS 18 brings a wealth of exciting features to iPhone, and one of the standouts is the enhanced customizability of the Control Center. This new update allows users to add almost anything they want to their Control Center, making it more versatile and user-friendly than ever before.

Among the many possibilities this opens up, perhaps one of the most useful is the ability to add Shortcuts to the Control Center. This feature lets us do some pretty cool things, including adding a Restart button - a function that previously required a series of button presses on the sides of the iPhone.

Let us explain how you can take advantage of this new feature and add a handy restart button to your Control Center. It's simpler than you might think, and it could save you time and frustration from fumbling with side buttons to restart iPhone.

Option 1: Use a pre-made shortcut (Quick and Easy)

For those who want to save time or find the process of creating a shortcut daunting, we've got you covered! You can use this pre-made restart shortcut:

Simply click the link, tap "Add Shortcut", and you're ready to add it to your Control Center!

Option 2: Create your own restart shortcut

If you prefer to create your own shortcut or want to understand the process, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the plus icon in the top right corner to create a new shortcut.
  3. Tap on search actions bar, type 'restart' or 'shut down' and select the 'Shut Down' action.
  1. Tap on the 'Shut Down' action highlighted in blue.
  2. Select 'Restart' from the available options.
  1. To rename your shortcut, tap on the drop-down icon at the top center of the screen and select 'Rename' option.
  2. Give your shortcut a suitable name such as 'Restart iPhone' and tap 'Done' on keyboard.
  1. Similarly, to add a custom icon for the shortcut, tap on the drop-down icon again and select 'Choose Icon' option.
  2. Check the custom icon selector option.
  3. You can choose any icon you like. We used the 'Repost' icon from the library. Search for 'Repost' and select it.
  4. Change background of the icon if you wish and tap 'Done'.
  1. At last, tap 'Done' again on the top-right corner of the screen to create your shortcut.

Adding the shortcut to Control Center

Now that you have your shortcut (either from Option 1 or Option 2), let's add it to the Control Center:

  1. Open Control Center on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the Add button (plus sign) at the top left to enter edit mode.
  3. Tap 'Add a Control' at the bottom of the screen.
  1. In the control gallery, search for 'Shortcuts' and tap on it.
  1. Tap 'Choose' in the Shortcut dialog and select the 'Restart' shortcut. If you have many shortcuts, use the search bar to find your restart shortcut quickly.
  1. Swipe up or anywhere on the screen to get back to the control customization screen.
  2. By default, it will show both the icon and text of the shortcut, but if you would like to show only the icon, you can resize it by dragging it short from bottom-left corner.
  1. Tapping the 'Restart iPhone' shortcut in control center will a confirmation dialog, tap 'Restart' and your iPhone will instantly restart.

So there you have it! You've now added a restart button to your Control Center. No more fumbling with side buttons when you need to give your iPhone a quick reboot.
