How to Clear Bodhi Sea in Where Winds Meet

Bodhi Sea is a Qinghe-region Campaign quest in Where Winds Meet built around a poisonous swamp, a set of ritual drums, and the boss Ye Wenshan. It is short, but the layout and hazards make it easy to get lost or killed on the way in.

How to unlock Bodhi Sea

Bodhi Sea is a Campaign-type side quest in the Qinghe region. It is tracked near Halo Peak in the Sundara Land sub‑area. Once the quest is available in your Campaign list, set it as the active objective and follow the marker to the edge of the Bodhi Sea ravine, where a Wayfarer NPC stands at the entry point.

Bodhi Sea layout and main objectives

The quest revolves around three main objectives:

Stage Objective
1 Reach the swamp and strike three drums scattered around Bodhi Sea.
2 Return to Zhang Yinmang and walk through the illusion that appears.
3 Defeat Ye Wenshan and loot the items he leaves behind.

Across all stages, the environment itself is one of the main threats. The swamp is heavily poisoned, and lingering in the deeper water is slow and lethal. There are also crocodiles in those deeper sections that can quickly finish you off if you try to wade straight across.

Two structural facts define the route:

  • The safe path largely winds around the swamp edges, using planks, logs, and narrow crossings.
  • Sound cues (audio icons on the HUD) mark the locations of each ritual drum once you are in the basin.

Stage 1 – Enter Bodhi Sea and strike the three drums

Dropping into the basin safely

From the Wayfarer of Sundara Land at the rim, you drop down into Bodhi Sea. The goal is to descend in controlled steps rather than jumping straight into the swamp:

  • Move from ledge to ledge until you reach firm ground at the basin floor.
  • Avoid long, direct drops that can kill you or dump you straight into poisonous muck.

Once you land, sound indicators will begin to appear in the world. Pointing your camera at these icons reveals the rough direction of the nearest drum. The first safe route is to follow the left‑hand edge of the swamp, using the packed earth and any visible plank crossings while staying out of the deep, slow water.

First drum and nearby chests

Following the audio cue along the left path leads to a Buddha statue with a ritual drum in front of it, guarded by a small group of soldiers. They are standard melee enemies:

  • Open by assassinating one if you have an assassination Mystic Art equipped, such as Touch of Death.
  • Otherwise, fight normally; this group is not especially tanky or complex.

After you clear the soldiers, interact with the drum to complete the first strike. A cutscene plays to show the ritual progressing.

From this platform, you can immediately improve your rewards:

  • Walk across the nearby log to a small island or ledge with a treasure chest.
  • Behind that chest is a cave entrance that hides a second chest further inside.

With both chests collected, follow the main path onward. It climbs into a small, half‑ruined village built above the swamp.

Finding Zhang Yinmang in the village

The village is the structural hub for this Campaign. Zhang Yinmang is located in one of the buildings here, though you do not need to speak with him in depth until all three drums have been sounded.

While exploring the interiors, you can also pick up an Old Ledger in one of the rooms. This is a hint item used for a Wandering Tale, not for the Bodhi Sea quest itself, but it is convenient to grab it now.

Second and third drums

Leaving the village, follow the new direction of the sound cue.

Drum Route summary Notable details
Second drum Exit the village along a plank path over the swamp toward another audio icon. More soldiers guard this drum and will revive once after you defeat them.
Third drum Follow the new cue that appears after the second drum; the path may loop back through part of the village. Final group of soldiers plus a chest on a boat near the drum.

At the second drum, be ready for the enemies to stand up again after their first defeat. Treat this as a second short round; they behave the same and can be parried or crowd‑controlled as normal. Once they are down, strike the drum.

For the third drum:

  • Watch the visual/audio icon carefully; it may guide you through the village, then out along another ramp or boardwalk.
  • At the final combat arena, clear the soldiers, loot the chest on top of the nearby boat, and then strike the third drum.

Striking the third drum fully “tunes” Bodhi Sea. The quest now shifts back to Zhang Yinmang and the illusion sequence.

Stage 2 – Return to Zhang Yinmang and walk the illusion path

With all three drums complete, make your way back to the village and speak to Zhang Yinmang. The objective is framed as asking him to stop drumming, but the encounter does not become a normal dialogue exchange. Instead, as you approach and trigger the conversation, the world shifts into an illusion.

The entire environment takes on an eerie, dreamlike look. The path forward is linear:

  • Walk slowly along the marked route, listening to the spirits’ lines as you pass them.
  • The wandering shades and echoes cannot hurt you; this is a narrative lead‑in rather than a combat gauntlet.

At the end of the path, you reach a Hero’s Tomb, which serves as the entry point for the boss fight. Interact with it to confront Ye Wenshan.

Stage 3 – Ye Wenshan boss fight (Bodhi Sea)

Ye Wenshan overview

Boss Role Difficulty
Ye Wenshan Campaign boss of Bodhi Sea High (focused on parry timing)

Ye Wenshan is fought as a mounted boss with a strong emphasis on parry timing and Qi (stagger) management:

  • Most of his swings are deliberate and slow, designed to be deflected rather than rushed through.
  • He uses three highlight types of attacks: normal, red (heavily telegraphed strikes), and gold/yellow (unblockable projectiles or slams).

Phase 1 – Learning his rhythm

In the first phase, Ye Wenshan cycles basic weapon attacks from his mount. These are primarily normal and red attacks:

  • Normal strikes: Standard swings you can block, dodge, or deflect. Parrying them drains his Qi bar incrementally.
  • Red attacks: Slow, charged swings with a built‑in delay. The delay is designed to throw off early parries.

The safest pattern is:

  • Stay mid‑range, circling to keep him in view.
  • For normal attacks, time your deflects as the weapon actually begins to move through you, not on the wind‑up.
  • For red attacks, wait out the visual charge and tap your parry slightly later than feels natural. A successful red deflect triggers a powerful counter and a large Qi break.

Repeated parries will stun Ye Wenshan periodically. Use these windows to unleash your strongest combos and high‑damage skills; this is when most of his health should be removed.

Phase 2 – Flaming weapons and golden attacks

Once his health drops past a threshold, Ye Wenshan ignites his weapons and adds a new pattern of aggression. The overall attack speed remains manageable, but one new category of move becomes critical:

  • Yellow/golden attack: A slam or double throw where he hurls his weapon toward you. These attacks are explicitly unsafe to block or parry.

The priorities change slightly:

  • Continue parrying normal and red attacks on rhythm to keep his Qi bar under pressure.
  • As soon as you see the golden highlight, commit to a lateral dodge or a well‑timed invulnerability step. Do not attempt to deflect these moves.
  • Maintain discipline: do not chase damage during his yellow sequences; wait for his weapon to return and his stance to reopen.

Because his basic timing remains fairly slow, players who already understand parry timing can keep the second phase under control. Treat the flaming visuals as a warning layer rather than a full mechanics change: red is still deflectable with a delay; gold is evade‑only.

Quest completion and loot

When Ye Wenshan falls, a path opens to a building just ahead of the arena. Enter and collect the loot he has left behind. Picking up these items completes the Bodhi Sea Campaign instance and also unlocks Ye Wenshan as a repeatable Campaign boss if you wish to farm him.

The Bodhi Sea clear rewards are structured as a bundle that accumulates during the run and at completion:

Reward type Amount / notes
Character EXP 4,000 base EXP, plus 400 EXP per character level
Zhou Coin 3,200
Oscillating Jade 2
Bellstrike Splendor Tips 2
Crimson Leaves Chest 1
Cosmetic set Bodhi Sea Cosmetic Set (campaign‑tied appearance)
Equipment sets Two armor sets: listed as Jadeware Set on some menus, Ironheart Set in others

The cosmetic drops are not guaranteed on every clear. Instead, you are more consistently awarded Cosmetic Tickets from Cosmetic Chests obtained through campaign clears. Amassing 360 Cosmetic Tickets lets you purchase the Blue Clouds exclusive appearance in the in‑game Season Shop.

Geography: Bodhi Sea quest item

Separate from the Campaign instance, Bodhi Sea also appears as part of the “Geography” quest‑item series. The quest item for this location is titled Geography: Bodhi Sea.

Item Category Description Acquisition
Geography: Bodhi Sea Quest Item A book called Annals of Geography, recording the local charms of Bodhi Sea from a Wayfarer’s perspective. Found through open‑world exploration or NPC interaction, not tied directly to the Campaign clear.

Like other Geography quest items, it is used for broader progression and world‑lore tracking rather than for unlocking the Bodhi Sea boss encounter itself.

Completing Bodhi Sea once unlocks a reliable way to fight Ye Wenshan for further drops and to progress Qinghe content that checks for his jade. With a clear plan for how to traverse the swamp, follow the drum cues, and handle his parry‑centric move set, the area stops being a confusing, poisoned maze and becomes a compact, repeatable Campaign run.
