How to Complete An Unsung Name in Where Winds Meet

How to Complete An Unsung Name in Where Winds Meet

An Unsung Name is an Encounter quest tucked into the Hexi region of Where Winds Meet, introduced alongside the Version 1.4 Home Afar update and the new Jade Gate Pass map. It revolves around a peculiar talking tree branch that has lost its memories — and three scattered items that can jog them loose. The whole thing takes only a few minutes once you know where to look.

Quick answer: Pull the branch from the fire at Peaceward Camp, then travel northeast of the Wraithridge Pass Boundary Stone to collect a rusted spear, a tattered medical book, and a broken wooden arrow. Return to the branch to finish the quest.

Starting the quest at Peaceward Camp

An Unsung Name triggers automatically when you approach the large tree near the Peaceward Camp Boundary Stone in the central part of Jade Gate Pass. You'll hear a voice coming from a fire burning at the base of the hill. Walk up to the flames and interact with them to pull the tree branch free. After rescuing it, the branch begins writing something in the sand — talk to it again to learn what it needs.

Once the conversation ends, the quest marker updates and points you toward a search area to the northeast of the Wraithridge Pass Boundary Stone. Open your quest journal and track An Unsung Name if it isn't already tracked, so the highlighted zone shows on your map.

All three item locations

The search zone contains three items spread across a relatively small area near a watchtower. Each one triggers a brief memory sequence when you pick it up. You can collect them in any order.

Item Location within the search area
Rusted spear Western side of the highlighted zone
Tattered medical book Southeast, south of the watchtower
Broken wooden arrow Northeast, north of the watchtower

The watchtower serves as a useful landmark. If you're having trouble spotting the items, use Wind Sense to highlight interactable objects in the environment. Each pickup plays a short cutscene showing a fragment of the branch's past life — watch all three before heading back.

Returning to Peaceward Camp

After collecting every item and viewing the associated memories, fast-travel back to the Peaceward Camp Boundary Stone. Speak with the branch one final time. You'll relay everything you witnessed, and the soul possessing the branch will depart peacefully. The quest completes immediately after the dialogue ends.

You'll know the quest is done when the Encounter marker disappears from your map and the reward summary pops up on screen.

An Unsung Name rewards

Reward Amount
Echo Jade 25
Hexi Exploration 25
Enlightenment Points 200
Coin 7,500

These totals include everything earned during the quest steps and upon completion. The Hexi Exploration points count toward your Jade Gate Pass 100% exploration progress, so finishing An Unsung Name is worth doing even if the other rewards feel modest.

An Unsung Name is one of several new Encounter quests added to Jade Gate Pass in Version 1.4. If you're working through the Hexi side content, nearby Encounters like Land of Gold, Mysterious IOU, and The Last Pilgrim follow a similar short-quest structure and can be knocked out in the same play session.
