How to Find and Complete "The Vanished Wagon" Sealed Artifact in Crimson Desert

"The Vanished Wagon" is one of 141 Sealed Abyss Artifacts scattered across the continent of Pywel in Crimson Desert. It belongs to the "Above the Law" challenge category and tasks you with fencing stolen wagons — a requirement that ties directly into the game's trade wagon mechanics.

Quick answer: Pick up The Vanished Wagon artifact on the side of the road northeast of Calphade Beacon in Northern Hernand, then sell five wagons to the fence to unseal it.

The Vanished Wagon Location in Northern Hernand

The Vanished Wagon sits along the main road that runs north from Deepfog Basin through the northern sectors of Hernand. If you follow this road northward past the Deepfog Basin area, you will encounter the artifact on a roadside altar or cairn — the typical placement for Sealed Abyss Artifacts throughout Pywel. A nearby landmark to orient yourself is Calphade Beacon; the artifact is positioned to the northeast of it.

Like all Sealed Abyss Artifacts, this one does not appear on the world map. It will show up as a purple icon on your minimap when you are within roughly 30 meters. You can also spot it from a distance by activating the Guiding Light ability (press L1+R1 on PlayStation, LB+RB on Xbox, or CTRL + Left Click on PC). A faint blue glimmer will reveal the artifact's position even through foliage or terrain obstacles.

⚠️
Enemy attacks can interrupt the pick-up animation. If the area around Calphade Beacon is hostile, consider using the Storm Veil ability to create a smokescreen before grabbing the artifact.

Challenge Requirement — Sell Five Wagons to the Fence

Once you pick up The Vanished Wagon, the challenge tally briefly flashes on the left side of your screen. The requirement is straightforward: sell five wagons to the fence. This falls under the "Above the Law" challenge track (specifically Above the Law 3), meaning it involves criminal or black-market activity within the game's systems.

To complete this challenge, you need to acquire trade wagons and deliver them to a fence NPC who deals in stolen goods. Trade wagons are part of Crimson Desert's Greymane faction trading system, where you drive wagons loaded with goods between settlements. Stealing or diverting wagons and selling them to a fence counts toward this tally.

A few practical notes on wagon handling that can save you frustration:

  • The trade wagon does not slow down when you pull back on the joystick in the way you might expect. Be careful around obstacles and trading stands — collisions can destroy the wagon or fail associated quests.
  • Wagons cannot survive deep water. Even shallow river crossings can destroy your cargo if the water is above ankle depth.
  • If you hop off the wagon and move more than about 10 meters from your companion (such as Yann during Greymane trade missions), the companion may teleport back to the starting camp, failing the delivery.
  • When crossing into hostile territory like Demeniss, local patrols may attack your wagon on sight. Either outrun them or fight near the wagon to protect it.

Checking Your Progress

If you need to recheck how many wagons you have sold, open the Journal and navigate to the Challenges menu. Look under the relevant tab (the Above the Law category) to find the exact tally. Do not rely on the artifact's inventory description — those entries are written as cryptic riddles rather than clear instructions.

Claiming the Reward

After selling the fifth wagon to the fence, a polygonal icon will appear on the right side of your screen. Open your inventory and look for the Sealed Abyss Artifact that is glowing or flashing — completed artifacts display a distinct open appearance with blue light, distinguishing them from sealed ones. Select it to claim your reward.

Sealed Abyss Artifact rewards fall into three categories:

Reward TypeFunction
Abyss ArtifactsSkill points for unlocking nodes in your Health, Spirit, and Stamina trees
Faded Abyss ArtifactsRare currency used to respec your character's skill allocations
Abyss GearsSocket-able gems that add elemental effects (Fire, Ice, Lightning) to weapons and armor

Collecting all 141 Sealed Abyss Artifacts is a prerequisite for the Platinum trophy and 1000 Gamerscore, since every Mastery, Combat, and Life challenge is gated behind them. There is no rush, though — you will naturally pass through Northern Hernand while completing objectives in the Duchy of Calphade.

The Vanished Wagon is one of several "Above the Law" artifacts that lean into Crimson Desert's black-market systems. If you are already running Greymane trade routes, diverting a few wagons to the fence is a natural extension of that gameplay loop. Just keep count, claim the glowing artifact from your inventory once the tally hits five, and move on to the next cairn along the road.
