If you're getting the "Err_Cache_Miss" error in Google Chrome, it means that the browser is going to resubmit the form if you refresh the form. This happens when the page you are trying to load needs inputs from the previous page but is not receiving it. There can be several reasons why this is happening, such as outdated extensions, issues with the browser, a problem with the website, or an unstable internet connection. Here are some of the ways you can solve this problem.
Fix 1: Reload the web page
The easiest way to solve the problem is to simply refresh the web page which is giving the error.
- You can do so by using the
Command + R
shortcut on macOS andShift + F5
shortcut on Windows or clicking on the refresh icon in the browser.
- If Chrome has frozen up, try performing a hard refresh. Press
Ctrl + F5
or click on the Reload button in the browser while holding down theCtrl
key. On macOS, pressCmd + Shift + R
or hold down theShift + Cmd
keys and click on the Refresh button. - If you're using Chrome on a mobile device, simply pull down on your screen to refresh the page.
Fix 2: Update Chrome
If Chrome is outdated, it will continue showing the error on all web pages, so you will have to update it.
- With the browser open, click on the three dots on the top right.
- When the pop-up menu appears, go to the 'Help' option and then click on 'About Google Chrome'.
- Chrome will check for updates and install them if they are available. Once the updates are installed, close the browser and reopen it.
Fix 3: Turn off browser extensions
Browser extensions can get corrupted or may be outdated, preventing Chrome from loading websites properly. You can disable the extensions you have installed to try and get rid of the error.
- Click on the 'Extensions' button next to the address bar in Chrome to access your extensions.
- Next, click on 'Manage extensions' in the dropdown menu.
- Now, click on the toggle for each extension to disable it.
- Once you've disabled all the extensions, you can open the website you were trying to open before and see whether the error still appears. If it does not, enable one extension at a time until the error reappears to determine which extension is causing the problem. Then you can remove that extension.
Fix 4: Clear Chrome's cache data
To speed up browsing and improve the user experience, Chrome and other browsers store certain data which helps them load websites faster. This is known as cached data, and when this data gets corrupted or too much of it gets stored, it can lead to problems like the Err_Cache_Miss error. To fix this, you can clear Chrome's cache data.
- With Chrome open, click on the three dots on the top right and then click on 'Settings' in the dropdown menu.
- On the Settings page, click on 'Privacy and Security' and then on 'Delete browsing data'.
- Check that both 'Cookies and other site data' and 'Cached images and files' are selected. Then click on the dropdown menu and select 'All Time' before clicking on the 'Delete data' button.
Ctrl + Shift + Delete
shortcut in Windows or Cmd + Shift + Delete
in macOS to bring up the 'Clear browsing data' menu. Then select 'All Time' and click on the 'Delete data' button. - If you're using the mobile version of Chrome, tap on the three dots and tap on 'Settings'.
- Then, tap on 'Privacy and Security'.
- Now, tap on 'Delete browsing data'.
- On the next page, check that 'Cookies' and 'Cached images and files' are selected before tapping on the dropdown menu and selecting 'All Time'. Finally, tap on the 'Delete data' button.
Fix 5: Restore Chrome's default settings
Problems with Chrome settings can also lead to the Err_Cache_Miss error, in which case you will have to reset Chrome to its default settings.
- Open the Chrome Settings page and click on 'Reset Settings' on the left.
- On the Reset Settings page, click on 'Restore settings to their original defaults' and then on 'Reset Settings' when the prompt appears.
- After resetting Chrome settings, try opening the website you were trying to access earlier when the error appeared.
Things to know
- If you're running into the Err_Cache_Miss error on your mobile device, you can try uninstalling Chrome and reinstalling it if clearing the cache does not work.
- Sometimes, problems can also occur if the website you're trying to open is running into problems. You can wait for some time before trying to access it again.
- If nothing else works, consider using a different browser, such as Firefox, which performs just as well and also ensures user privacy better.
