Reports that Apple Intelligence features won't be available with the release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia have been going on for a while now. And the absence of Apple Intelligence features from the Developer and Public Betas was a strong indicator of that.

Now, Apple has released the developer beta versions of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 with some Apple Intelligence features which confirms that the public versions of the first iteration will ship without AI features in the fall. The company doesn't typically release the subsequent versions in beta before the initial version is launched publically.

Not all Apple Intelligence features have shipped with this update, but you can access features like improved Siri, writing tools, summaries for transcripts, and the new 'Reduce Interruptions' Focus right now.

  1. To get the Developer Beta, go to your device settings, then navigate to General > Software Update > Beta Updates.
  2. Then, select iOS 18.1 Developer Beta/ macOS Sequoia 15.1 Developer Beta from the menu and install the update.
  1. After your device restarts, go to Settings once again and you'll find a new menu for 'Apple Intelligence'.
  1. If you see that Apple Intelligence isn't available in your region, change the Siri and device language to US English and set the device region to the United States. Change the Siri language from the Apple Intelligence menu.
  1. Then, go back to the main menu in Settings, navigate to General > Language & Region and change the device language and region.
  1. Restart your PC and navigate to the Apple Intelligence menu again. Then, click on 'Join Waitlist'.
  1. On the pop-up screen, click on 'Join Waitlist' again.
  1. You'll be notified once it is available for your device. Click on 'Turn on Apple Intelligence' once it is available. Then, complete the setup prompts.
