How to Get and Crack Geodes in Abyss (Virelia NPC Guide)

Geodes are collectible items in Abyss that contain Artifacts, permanent buffs for your character. Each Artifact improves specific stats such as fishing speed, cooldown reduction, damage output, oxygen capacity, or cash gain. Geodes appear randomly during fishing minigames and must be opened by the NPC Virelia to reveal their contents.

Quick answer: While fishing, a treasure chest icon occasionally appears in the minigame bar. Keep the progress bar over the treasure chest until it fills completely, then finish the minigame to receive a Geode. Take the Geode to Virelia near the Tubes Shop at Forgotten Deep to open it for a random Artifact.

How to Obtain Geodes While Fishing

Geodes spawn during the fishing minigame with a small random chance, roughly one attempt in every five. When a treasure chest icon appears alongside the fish bar, you must fill both the main progress bar and the treasure chest bar to secure the Geode. If you complete the minigame before filling the treasure chest bar, you will not receive a Geode.

Step 1: Cast your line and start the fishing minigame as usual. Watch for a treasure chest icon to appear on the minigame bar.

Step 2: Fill the main progress bar to at least 75 percent, then shift focus to the treasure chest bar. Keep the green indicator over the treasure chest until a check mark appears.

Step 3: Return to the main progress bar and complete the minigame. The Geode will be added to your inventory along with the fish.

Where to Find Virelia and Open Geodes

Virelia is the purple-haired NPC located near the Tubes Shop at Forgotten Deep. She is surrounded by white octopus legs and a circular table that emits a purple glow. Interact with her to access the Geode opening menu.

Step 1: Walk to the purple area near the Tubes Shop at Forgotten Deep. Look for the circular table with the purple aura and white octopus legs.

Step 2: Press the interact button when near Virelia. Select the Yes (Open Artifacts) option from the menu.

Step 3: Choose the Geode type from your inventory and press Open. Virelia will display the opening cost and time required. For example, a Mossy Geode costs $75 and takes one minute to open.

Step 4: Confirm the transaction and wait for the timer to complete. Once finished, you will receive a random Artifact from the Geode's loot pool.

The menu also shows the drop percentage for each Artifact in the selected Geode type. Review these percentages before opening to understand which buffs are possible.

Geode Types and Their Artifact Pools

Three Geode types exist in Abyss, each tied to a specific location and containing a unique set of Artifacts. Fishing in the corresponding biome determines which Geode type you can obtain.

Geode Type Location Artifacts
Mossy Geode Forgotten Deep, Ocean Banana, Sea Star, Hour Glass, Fish Bag, Feather, Poop, Holy Flower
Cactus Geode Ancient Sands Cactus, Fish Crate, Sea Mine, Mutated Skull, Divine Hour Glass, Infernal Eye
Rooted Geode Spirit Roots Tank, Lantern, Rune of Might, Demonic Hour Glass, Eternal Crystal, Wraith Flower

Cactus and Rooted Geodes generally offer stronger Artifacts, including Epic to Mythical rarities. Mossy Geodes contain more Common and Rare Artifacts suited for early progression.

How Artifacts Stack With Other Buffs

Artifacts apply their buffs on top of bonuses from guns, races, and other upgrades. Speed and cooldown Artifacts reduce fishing time per catch, while damage Artifacts increase the chance of catching rare fish. Oxygen Artifacts extend the time you can spend in deeper zones without resurfacing. Cash Artifacts multiply the money earned from selling fish.

Holy Flower is considered the strongest overall Artifact because it boosts speed, damage, and cash gain simultaneously. Wraith Flower provides the highest damage increase at Mythical rarity, making it ideal for players targeting rare fish.

Verification and Failure Reasons

After opening a Geode, the Artifact appears in your inventory and its buffs apply immediately. Check your character stats in the menu to confirm the changes. If you do not receive a Geode after filling the treasure chest bar, verify that you completed the main progress bar before the minigame ended. If the treasure chest bar was not fully filled before the minigame concluded, no Geode will drop.

Virelia will not open a Geode if you lack the required cash. Ensure you have enough money before interacting with her. The opening time varies by Geode type, so plan accordingly if you need Artifacts quickly.

Artifacts are permanent once unlocked. You cannot choose which Artifact you receive from a Geode; the result is random based on the drop percentages shown in Virelia's menu. Farming the correct location for the desired Geode type is more important than opening large quantities of Geodes.
