How to Get Morale Chant in Where Winds Meet

Morale Chant is one of the most universally useful Inner Ways in Where Winds Meet. It works with any weapon or path and gives frequent stacking boosts to both damage and healing, so it shows up in almost every endgame build.

What Morale Chant Does

Morale Chant is a Legendary Inner Way in the General path with an attack-and-buff focus. Its core effect revolves around a buff called Yi River:

Inner Way Core Effect
Morale Chant 80% chance to gain one stack of Yi River when attacking or healing. Yi River increases Physical Damage and healing by 1% for 8 seconds, up to 5 stacks. The game checks once every 2 seconds whether Yi River is gained.

In practice, that means that as long as you keep attacking or using heals, Morale Chant steadily ramps up your output and keeps it there, especially in longer fights. With five stacks active, you gain a noticeable bump to both damage and sustain even before any upgrades.

How to get Morale Chant (Tang Bao and the tomes)

Step 1: Travel to the Blissful Retreat area in the Qinghe region and locate the Blissful Retreat Boundary Stone. This boundary stone acts as the main landmark for where you need to go.

Step 2: Find the Weiyang Merchant Tang Bao standing beside that Boundary Stone. He is a wandering merchant, but his functional location is fixed next to this landmark even later in the story.

Step 3: Talk to Tang Bao and open his shop inventory. Look for the Morale Chant tomes (often listed as pages or volumes). There are ten tomes in total, and each one costs 500 Echo Jade.

Step 4: Purchase all ten Morale Chant tomes from Tang Bao. The full set costs 5000 Echo Jade (10 × 500). Echo Jade is earned by opening chests, completing quests, participating in events, finishing achievements, and similar activities, so you may need to farm if you have been spending it on other things.

Step 5: After buying all ten tomes, open the Inner Ways menu and locate Morale Chant. Use the option to comprehend or learn it. Once you confirm, the Inner Way unlocks, and its effect becomes available for your builds.

Note: After a certain point in the main story, Tang Bao’s icon can disappear from the world map. This is a UI issue rather than a gameplay change. The merchant still stands by the Blissful Retreat Boundary Stone, so you can walk there and interact with him even if no map pin is visible.

Other ways Morale Chant pages can appear

Individual Morale Chant pages can also drop as random loot. Enemies and chests in the open world have a chance to yield these fragments. If you are patient and run a lot of content, it is possible to piece the set together over time without buying every tome from Tang Bao.

However, the merchant route is the only fully deterministic way to finish the set on demand. Because the total cost is fixed at 5000 Echo Jade, you can treat it as a savings goal if you want Morale Chant early rather than relying on random drops.

Morale Chant breakthrough tiers and upgrades

Like other Inner Ways, Morale Chant can be pushed through six breakthrough tiers. Each tier adds another passive bonus on top of the base Yi River effect.

Tier Breakthrough bonus
1 Each stack of Yi River grants +2 Physical Penetration.
2 Increases Physical Attack based on your Solo Mode Level.
3 When the target is controlled, Yi River’s damage and healing bonus per stack doubles to 2%, and each proc gives two stacks instead of one.
4 Yi River’s application chance becomes 100%, and its duration rises to 12 seconds.
5 Increases Direct Critical Rate by 4.6%.
6 At maximum stacks, Yi River triggers an extra attack or heal on the target once, or twice if the target is controlled. This can occur once every 10 seconds.

Each tier requires more Morale Chant notes than the previous one, and those notes are obtained from Inner Way systems such as Note chests and exchange vendors. Higher tiers are where Morale Chant turns from a simple ramping buff into a key part of high-damage rotations, especially once Tier 3 and Tier 4 are unlocked.

How to start upgrading Morale Chant

Step 1: Advance your character to at least Solo Mode Level 4 (also called Level 4 Roaming). Inner Way tier upgrades remain locked until this level requirement is met.

Step 2: Obtain Morale Chant: Notes. Early on, a convenient way to secure some guaranteed notes is through the Tips Exchange and from Inner Way Note chests that are sold by certain NPCs and seasonal shops. These chests award notes when opened and can include Morale Chant notes.

Step 3: Use the Inner Way interface to spend Morale Chant notes on tier breakthroughs, starting from Tier 1 and moving upward. Each new tier costs more notes than the previous, so budget your notes around the Inner Ways you plan to keep long term.

Tip: If you decide to chase multiple Inner Ways at once, locking your preferred Inner Ways and recycling unwanted ones into Book Tokens lets you convert duplicates into more Note chests. It is a loss in raw value, but it accelerates progress on a small group of priority Inner Ways like Morale Chant and Seasonal Edge.

Why Morale Chant is strong on almost every build

Morale Chant is not tied to any specific weapon or Martial Path. It triggers from any attack and any heal, which lets it slot comfortably into:

  • DPS builds that want consistent physical damage scaling during long boss fights.
  • Healer or support setups that benefit from stronger healing and some extra damage while casting support skills.
  • Tank builds that still need to contribute damage in group content while keeping their own self-healing effective.

As the breakthrough tiers stack up, the Inner Way adds penetration, extra Physical Attack, critical rate, and even bonus hits or heals at full stacks. That combination makes it attractive even for very defensive roles, since clearing content faster and smoothing self-sustain often matters more than adding more raw mitigation once you are already durable enough.

For that reason, many late-game players treat Morale Chant as a default slot unless they have a very specific reason to swap it out.

Once you have saved 5000 Echo Jade, visited Tang Bao by the Blissful Retreat Boundary Stone, and bought all ten tomes, Morale Chant becomes a permanent tool in your Inner Way arsenal. From there, investing Morale Chant notes into its breakthrough tiers turns a simple stacking buff into one of the most efficient ways to raise both your damage and healing across almost any build in Where Winds Meet.
