Mountain Armor is one of three relics you must recover during the Jianghu Legacy quest “March of the Dead” in Where Winds Meet. Together with the Battle Helmet and Iron Spear, it forms the Spectral Soldier Armor that lets you march safely with the dead through the Ghost Gate.
Mountain Armor is easy to miss in the dense Nether Mist and maze-like alleys of the Ghostlight Market, so it helps to treat it as a focused objective rather than a side pickup.
Quest context: why Mountain Armor matters
“March of the Dead” takes place in the sealed Ghostlight Market beneath Kaifeng. After finishing the Worldly Affairs quest “Bounty Trouble” and gaining access to the Market, you begin this Jianghu Legacy by setting the in‑game time to Mao hour in the time menu and speaking with the elder Liu Changsheng at the Market entrance.
Liu Changsheng sends you into the Nether Mist to retrieve three specific items:
- Mountain Armor
- Battle Helmet
- Iron Spear
Bringing all three back allows Liu Changsheng to assemble the Spectral Soldier Armor. Once equipped from the Bag’s Quest tab, this armor causes Spectral Soldiers in the area to ignore you unless you attack them, which is essential for safely reaching the Ghost Gate and confronting the spectral warrior Zhu Yousheng at the end of the quest.
While you can tackle the three items in any order, the in‑game markers and NPC dialogue naturally guide you to Mountain Armor as one of the early objectives.

How the Nether Mist and lanterns work
The entire Ghostlight Market at Mao hour is covered in Nether Mist. Staying out in the mist for too long fills a bar on your HUD; when it maxes out, your HP drops in large chunks until you get back under cover.
Green lanterns scattered through the alleys — described in quest text as Lanterns of Underground — are your main safety net:
- Standing close to a lantern purges your Nether Mist buildup and stops the HP loss.
- Lanterns also subtly mark the “correct” paths that lead to each relic.
Mountain Armor location in the Ghostlight Market
Mountain Armor lies in a waterlogged cavern off the main Market streets, reached through a short sequence of gates, stairs, and a boatman NPC.
Step 1: From Liu Changsheng’s initial position in the Ghostlight Market, face into the mist‑covered streets and go right. Your goal is to follow the line of green lanterns deeper into the Market rather than turning back toward the entry cavern.

Step 2: Move from lantern to lantern, always taking the straightforward option when the path forks. You will eventually see a large stairway ahead with a cat nearby. The stairs are a key landmark that you’re in the right place.
Step 3: At the base of those stairs, turn left instead of climbing. A disembodied voice calls out through the mist as you approach a raft — this is the boatman Jin Yunhai. Walk up to the raft and start a conversation.
Step 4: After speaking with Jin Yunhai, a quest icon appears, marking the Mountain Armor. Jin tells you it rests in a cavern ahead. From here, you need to cross the water and navigate by lanterns to reach a chest.

Step 5: Swim or wade toward the new objective marker, always angling toward the next green lantern you can see through the fog. The water itself can chip away at your HP if you linger, so treat each crossing as a short sprint between safe points.
Step 6: Enter the cavern lit by more green lanterns. At the far side, you’ll find a chest. Open it to obtain the Mountain Armor and fulfill that leg of Liu Changsheng’s request.

Using Mountain Armor with the other relics
On its own, Mountain Armor is just one-third of the Spectral Soldier set. Once you’ve also secured the Battle Helmet and Iron Spear elsewhere in the Ghostlight Market and returned all three pieces to Liu Changsheng, he forges them into a single quest armor item called Spectral Soldier Armor.
After he completes the ritual, you need to equip this armor manually:
Step 1: Open your Bag and switch to the Quest tab, where unique one‑off quest items and disguises are stored.

Step 2: Select Spectral Soldier Armor and equip it. Your character’s appearance changes to match the undead troops stationed throughout the Ghostlight Market.
With the armor active, you can follow the procession of Spectral Soldiers through the Market, reach the Ghost Gate cave, and speak to Liu Changsheng again without provoking the undead on the road. Only direct attacks on them will break the disguise.
Related synergy: Mountain’s Might Inner Way vs. Mountain Armor
Mountain Armor is strictly a story relic and visual piece tied to “March of the Dead”; it is separate from the combat‑focused Inner Way named Mountain’s Might.
Mountain’s Might is a support‑style Inner Way keyed to the Nameless Spear and the Martial Path Bellstrike – Splendor. It modifies the spear skill Qiankun’s Lock so that triggering its Endless Gale/Long Wind effects cuts Endurance costs for several seconds, with further Breakthrough tiers adding:
- Longer Long Wind duration.
- Scaling increases to Bellstrike Attack and Penetration.
- Cooldown reduction after hitting Rooted or Silenced enemies.
- Extra Endurance cost reduction for Sprint and charged skills while Long Wind is active.
- A “Moving Mountain” mark from Qiankun’s Lock that can restore Endurance when you hit the marked target.
Mountain’s Might is unlocked in a very different way from Mountain Armor: by raising comprehension through Internal Art chests inside the Palace of Annals in Qinghe, with five chests in that dungeon each contributing a portion of comprehension until you reach 100 percent.
The overlap in naming can be confusing — Mountain Armor is a one‑off spectral cuirass from Kaifeng’s Ghostlight Market, while Mountain’s Might is an Inner Way that permanently reshapes a specific spear playstyle. They serve completely different roles in a build.

Once Mountain Armor is safely in your inventory and turned in, the most difficult part of the quest is behind you. With the Spectral Soldier Armor equipped, the Ghostlight Market stops being a lethal stealth maze and becomes a somber parade route leading straight to the Ghost Gate and Zhu Yousheng’s arena.
