Catch Pikachu in Wild Zone 3 (early game)
Pikachu appears throughout Wild Zone 3 in the northern part of the map, and you can pick one up day or night without waiting for rare spawns.
Step 1: Enter Wild Zone 3 and head toward the southeast garden area (Rouge Plaza). Scan the grass; you’ll often see two or more Pikachu in the same quadrant.

Step 2: Start a battle instead of relying on a backshot throw. Pikachu here are alert and regularly break free from stealth throws.

Step 3: Daze or weaken Pikachu during the fight, then throw a Poke Ball or Great Ball for a higher capture rate.

Step 4: If no Pikachu are up, leave the area or fast travel elsewhere and return later to refresh spawns.
Catch an Alpha Pikachu
Alpha Pikachu hits much harder and has a lower catch rate, but it’s a strong addition to your roster right away.
Method A — Wild Zone 6 rooftop (level 41–42)
Step 1: Enter Wild Zone 6 and locate Cafe Bataille. Find the ladder and climb to the roof.

Step 2: Initiate a battle from a safe distance. Expect aggressive behavior and stronger moves due to the Alpha’s high level.

Step 3: Inflict a status condition (for example, paralysis) or safely chip its HP, then throw a Great Ball. Be ready for multiple attempts.

Method B — Wild Zone 3 southeast garden (Alpha among regular spawns)
Step 1: Patrol the southeast garden where regular Pikachu roam. Watch for an oversized Alpha moving with the group.
Step 2: Engage the Alpha separately to avoid multi-Pokemon pressure, then use the same battle-and-catch approach as above.
Catch Pichu in Wild Zone 1 and evolve into Pikachu
If you prefer to raise Pikachu from its baby form, you can catch Pichu very early and evolve it via friendship.
Step 1: Obtain TM Rock Smash. You’ll need it to break boulders blocking the back entrance to Wild Zone 1.

Step 2: Use the alleyway to reach the rear entrance, then smash the rocks to enter the area behind the gate.

Step 3: Move quietly. Pichu flees quickly when it spots you, so avoid sprinting and sudden camera shifts as you approach.

Step 4: Save your game before you throw a ball. If it breaks out and runs, reload to try again without losing the spawn.

Step 5: After catching Pichu, visit Novuveau Cafe in Lumiose City and order any coffee four times to max friendship.
Step 6: Open your party menu and trigger the evolution when notified that Pichu is ready to evolve into Pikachu.

Alternative — Raise Pichu’s friendship through play
Step 1: Keep Pichu in your main party so it participates in battles and gains experience.
Step 2: Feed it Exp. Candies between encounters to speed up leveling and friendship gains, then evolve from the party menu when prompted.

Evolve Pikachu into Raichu (Thunder Stone)
Pikachu evolves immediately with a Thunder Stone, regardless of level.
Step 1: Buy a Thunder Stone at the Stone Emporium on Vernal Avenue (northwest of Wild Zone 1, near Hotel Z). If the shop area is blocked, progress the main story a few missions further.

Step 2: Alternatively, search red Poke Ball item pickups scattered around Lumiose City; Thunder Stones can appear in these.
Step 3: Open your bag, go to the Other Items tab, select the Thunder Stone, and use it on Pikachu to evolve it into Raichu.

Pikachu basics (type, evolution, example moves)
- Type: Electric.
- Evolution line: Pichu → Pikachu → Raichu (use Thunder Stone on Pikachu).
- Example moves you’ll see early: Thunder Shock, Nuzzle, Thunder Bolt, Spark.
With these routes, you can secure a low‑level Pikachu early or go straight for an Alpha powerhouse. Finish the line with a Thunder Stone whenever you’re ready for Raichu.
