Google is continuously enhancing the capabilities of its AI chatbot, Gemini, and adding more features to it to make it more useful. The latest feature update to the digital assistant lets users send messages and make calls using it without having to actually open the phone app. You can find this option in the latest version of the app and enable it to receive and make calls as well as send messages using Gemini.
- Open the Gemini app on your Android phone and tap on your profile picture in the top right.
- Then tap on Settings in the pop-up menu.
- On the Settings page, tap on 'Gemini on Lock Screen'.
- Then tap on the 'Gemini responses on the lock screen' toggle to turn it on.
- Now, go back to the Settings page and tap on 'Extensions'.
- Scroll down and check whether the 'Phone' extension is enabled. If it isn't, tap on the toggle to turn it on.
- Now, you can simply say 'Hey Google' to activate Gemini. Once Gemini appears on your screen, you can ask it to call a person from your contacts list. You can even do so while your phone is locked if you have access to the feature.
Things to know

- To be able to make calls using Gemini, you must ensure that the 'Gemini Apps Activity' option in your Google account settings is enabled.
- In addition to making phone calls, Gemini can let you send messages directly and even through third-party apps like WhatsApp once you enable the respective extensions.
- You can even control your alarms, media volume, timers, and more from your lock screen using Gemini.
