How to Start Over in Where Winds Meet on Steam, PS5, and PC Launcher

Where Winds Meet currently allows only one character per account and does not expose a simple “Delete Save” or “New Game” button. To replay the story or fix an early mistake, you have to reset your account link so the game treats you as a new player.

The core idea is always the same: bind your existing character to a NetEase Games account, unbind your platform account (Steam, Epic, PSN), then restart so that the platform account can create a fresh character.

Where Winds Meet restart options overview

Platform / setup What you do to start over What happens to the old character Key risks or notes
Steam or Epic (standard case) Bind current character to NetEase, then unbind Steam/Epic via in‑game Customer Service and restart. Stays on the NetEase account; Steam/Epic becomes empty and can make a new character. You cannot re‑link that same NetEase account to Steam/Epic later if both have characters without support help.
PS5 Link a NetEase account in settings, open Customer Service, use Unbind account for PSN (where available). Character remains attached to NetEase or PSN depending on how you unlink. Unbind options differ by region and client version; some players only see partial menus.
Standalone PC launcher (NetEase account first) Log out in the launcher and log in with a new NetEase account, or use unbind flow if also linked to Steam/Epic. Old character remains on the original NetEase account. To bring that old character to Steam later, support may need to clear links or delete accounts.
Steam with no NetEase binding yet Create and bind a NetEase account first, then unbind Steam via Customer Service and restart. Existing character moves to NetEase; Steam account becomes fresh. Keep the throwaway NetEase login safe in case you ever want to access the old character.
PS5 simple wipe Delete Where Winds Meet game data on PS5 storage. Local data wiped; server‑side behaviour may vary but players report being able to restart. May not work the same in every region or after future patches.
Note: Items, purchases, and rewards do not transfer between characters. Anything on the original character stays there.

This method keeps your platform account (Steam or Epic) as the “fresh start” and parks the old character on a NetEase account.

If you do not already have a NetEase account linked:

  • On a browser, create a NetEase Games account at https://account.neteasegames.com/.
  • Use any email you control. Many players prefer a throwaway address so the “old” character stays out of the way.

Then bind it in-game:

  • Launch Where Winds Meet via Steam or Epic and load into your character.
  • Open the menu (Esc on the keyboard or the pause button on controller).
  • Open Settings, then move to the Other tab (you may need to scroll tabs horizontally).
  • Select Bind Account.
  • Choose NetEase Games. The client opens a browser window where you log in and confirm the link.

Afterward, return to the game and re‑open Bind Account to confirm that NetEase is now shown as linked.

Tip: If the Bind window will not open, changing your default browser or restarting the game has helped some players. Region‑specific clients can behave differently; in that case, support may have to do the binding for you.

Step 2: Unbind your Steam or Epic account in Customer Service

Once NetEase is linked, you can free up your Steam/Epic slot.

  • Open Settings again and stay on the Other tab.
  • At the bottom right, select Customer Service (on PC, this can also be opened with the default V key when the prompt is visible).
  • Choose Unbind account.
  • Click the blue text that leads to the unbind action.
  • In the account list, select Steam or Epic (whichever platform you are using).
  • Type Confirm exactly as requested, then proceed.

The client asks you to restart once unbinding completes.

Important:

  • You cannot unbind the NetEase account itself through this menu. One linked account must remain; in this flow, that is NetEase.
  • If you do not see the Unbind option at all, setting the game language to English and restarting exposes the full menu for many players.

Step 3: Restart and create a new character

After unbinding, fully close and relaunch Where Winds Meet via Steam or Epic.

  • The game now treats your platform account as new and lets you enter the tutorial and character creator again.
  • Your original character still exists on the NetEase account you linked earlier. It is not deleted.

You can keep playing with the new character on Steam/Epic without linking NetEase again. If you later try to reconnect the old NetEase account while both sides already have characters, the client will refuse the link; support must intervene if you want them merged or cleared.

Restart on Steam while keeping your original name

If you care about reclaiming your old character name on the fresh Steam character, you need one extra loop through the standalone PC launcher.

Step 1: Move your old character to NetEase and clear Steam

Follow the same steps as above to:

  • Bind your current Steam character to a NetEase account.
  • Unbind Steam via Customer Service and restart so Steam is empty and ready for a new character.

Step 2: Install the standalone PC launcher and access the old character

  • Download the official Where Winds Meet PC launcher from the game’s site at https://www.wherewindsmeetgame.com/ (use the “PLAY PC NOW” entry point).
  • Install and launch the standalone client.
  • Log in with the same NetEase account that now holds your original character.

That login loads your old character independent of Steam.

Step 3: Buy a Rename Certificate on the old character

To free up your old name for reuse:

  • Open the in‑game Shop.
  • Go to Items, then the Jianghu Treasures category.
  • Purchase a Rename Certificate (it appears as the last item in that section).

Do not immediately rename this character yet. The name only becomes available to others after a delay once you confirm the change.

Step 4: Time the rename with your new Steam run

The name hand‑off has to be coordinated:

  • Start a new character on Steam and play until you defeat the first boss and reach the naming screen.
  • Only after you are at that naming prompt should you:
    • Log in to the standalone launcher on your old character.
    • Use the Rename Certificate to change that character’s name to something else.
  • Wait about 30 minutes for the original name to be released by the servers.
  • Return to the Steam naming screen and claim the freed name for your new character.

Keep in mind that once the old name is released, anyone can take it. If you wait much longer than the release window, there is a risk it will be grabbed by another player.

Starting over on PS5

On PlayStation, the tools are similar, but the menus can differ by region and client build.

Option 1: Use NetEase linking and Unbind in Customer Service

A path that mirrors the Steam flow:

  • From the in‑game settings on PS5, open the section used for account linking.
  • Link a NetEase account as described above (create it first if needed).
  • From the map or normal gameplay, open settings and then hold the Triangle button to open Customer Service.
  • Use the Unbind account option if it appears, and select your PSN account when prompted.

This lets you delete the current character and create a new one under a new NetEase linkage. Some players have done this without a second NetEase account; others used a throwaway NetEase profile first and then unbound.

However, not all PS5 clients show an Unbind option, and the UI text can vary by language. If you see only bug report entries or a simplified menu, the region build may be more limited. In that case, contacting in‑game support before experimenting with links is safer than guessing.

Option 2: Delete Where Winds Meet game data on PS5

Players have reported a simpler workaround:

  • On your PS5, go to the console storage management.
  • Delete the Where Winds Meet game data for your profile.
  • Launch the game again and follow the intro flow.

On at least some setups, this prompts the game to start clean, allowing a new character. Because backend handling can change over time and by region, treat this as a low‑impact experiment rather than a guaranteed reset. If you have linked accounts or rewards you care about, combining this with NetEase linking and support guidance is safer.

Starting fresh using the official PC launcher instead of Steam or Epic

If you originally installed Where Winds Meet through Steam or Epic and want a clean run separated from your platform account, the standalone PC launcher gives you another path.

A common approach looks like this:

  • Uninstall or ignore the Steam/Epic version.
  • Download and install the official PC client from https://www.wherewindsmeetgame.com/.
  • Create a new NetEase account during login and use that for a truly fresh start.

If you later want to bring this launcher‑based account into Steam, support may have to delete or merge the existing Steam‑linked profile first, because both sides cannot hold separate characters under the same NetEase login.

Simple “log out and start over” method (launcher only)

On the standalone launcher (and in some login flows), logging out at the account level can boot you back to a login screen that lets you choose a different account and start from scratch.

  • From within the game, open the main menu and choose the exit option that returns you to the login screen.
  • On that screen, locate the account section, usually in the lower left.
  • Open the account list and select the option to log out or close the current login.
  • Confirm the logout. The client returns to a screen where you can log in with a new NetEase Games account and create a new character.

This flow does not delete the old character; it simply lives on a different login. It is a clean solution when you do not care about linking with Steam, Epic, or PSN.

What happens to rewards and purchases when you restart

Progress is strictly character‑based:

  • In‑game purchases, items, and earned gear stay with the character that obtained them. They do not migrate to the new character.
  • Pre‑registration rewards are tied to participation around launch rather than a single character. Players who restarted still received these items again via in‑game mail after reaching the required milestones.
  • Account‑level links (Twitch drops, for example) can be affected if you unbind or move accounts; unlink those services first if you care about them, then re‑attach on the new main account.

If you need a specific entitlement moved or a character fully deleted from a NetEase account, the only reliable path is to open a ticket through in‑game Customer Service or the official support portal and wait out their account‑deletion window when required.

Until a native “create new character” or “delete character” option ships globally, restarts in Where Winds Meet will stay tied to account gymnastics. Once you understand that characters live on accounts and accounts can be re‑bound, the reset flows described here let you replay the story, fix difficulty choices, or reclaim a name without abandoning your platform logins.
