Mega Evolution returns in Pokémon Legends Z‑A, and Greninja’s Mega form is tied to the game’s online Ranked Battles. Greninjite is awarded during Season 1 to players who reach Rank K. This item isn’t obtainable through normal gameplay, so you’ll need to participate in Ranked Battles to get it.

Prepare a Greninja (or evolve one)

You’ll need a Greninja ready to go once you earn the Mega Stone. If you don’t have one:

  • Catch a Froakie in Wild Zone 16 and evolve it through the line, or
  • Transfer a Froakie/Frogadier/Greninja to your save via Pokémon HOME.

Any Greninja can Mega Evolve once it’s holding Greninjite.

Unlock online play in Pokémon Legends Z‑A

Play through the opening chapter until the game enables online features; this takes about 1.5 hours of story progression. Make sure your console’s online membership is active on the profile you’re using.

Start a Ranked Battle (Z‑A Battle Club)

Ranked Battles are the only path to Greninjite in Season 1. Use the in‑game menu to get online:

  1. Launch Pokémon Legends Z‑A.
  2. Press the X button to open the main menu.
  3. Select Link Play.
  1. Select Ranked Battles.

You’ll begin at Rank Z and climb by earning points from matches.

Earn Greninjite (reach Rank K)

Play matches during Season 1 and climb to Rank K to receive Greninjite. Rewards are distributed as you progress through ranks and when the season ends. To be eligible for end‑of‑season distributions, finish at least one match (win or loss) during the season window.

Once you’ve received Greninjite, it will appear in your save as an item.

Equip Greninjite and Mega Evolve

Give Greninjite to your Greninja in the item menu. When the battle starts, Greninja can Mega Evolve while holding the stone. No additional moves or quests are required.

Ranked rules that affect your team

Rule What it means
Eligible Pokédex range Lumiose Pokédex No. 001–227 only during Season 1
Level settings Any level 1–100 can enter; all Pokémon are set to Lv. 50 in battle
Species limit Only one of the same species per team

Leaked Mega Greninja stats (unconfirmed)

Early retail copies have circulated reported numbers for Mega Greninja. Treat these as provisional until in‑game data is finalized:

Stat Value
HP72
Attack125
Defense77
Sp. Attack133
Sp. Defense81
Speed142

If Mega Greninja is a core part of your plan, budget the hour or so to unlock online, climb to Rank K before the season ends, and equip Greninjite as soon as it drops. From there, it’s just a matter of building a team around its speed and pressure in the new format.
