Quick Info
  • Apple Intelligence writing tools are available with iOS 18.1 or macOS Sequoia 15.1 Developer Betas.
  • Writing tools can be accessed almost everywhere on the device, even in third-party apps without any special updates.
  • They should be called rewriting tools instead of writing tools since they cannot write from scratch but only transform existing text.
  • To access writing tools, you simply need to highlight some text and they will be accessible from the pop-up/ right-click menu.

Once Apple Intelligence is enabled on your compatible device, you can use Writing Tools on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

How to get access to Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 betas
Here’s how you can try some Apple Intelligence features on your device right now.

The process is the same for all the devices with a slight difference in the logistics (available through the pop-up menu on iPhone/ iPad and right-click menu on Mac).

  1. To access the Writing Tools, go to any text field, say in Notes, Mail, Safari, any other third-party browser, etc.
  2. Write some text, select it, and right-click on it. Then, go to 'Writing Tools' from the context menu.
  3. Although all the writing tools options are available in the sub-menu itself, for easier access, click on the 'Show Writing Tools' option instead.
  1. You can also wait for the 'Apple Intelligence' symbol to appear and then click on it directly to open Writing Tools.
  1. Writing tools pop-up menu will appear. You'll find the following options there:
  • Proofread
  • Rewrite
  • Friendly
  • Professional
  • Concise
  • Summary
  • Key Points
  • List
  • Table
  1. Click on the option you want to use. They are all rather self-explanatory. Proofread, for example, will proofread your text and correct any mistakes.
  2. Once Apple Intelligence is done proofreading the text, you'll get a menu with options to revert to the original text, see the original text (this doesn't close the AI menu), rate the AI's output, see the changes it made by clicking on the arrows (in case of proofreading only), etc.
  1. For options like Summary or Key Points, it'll produce the summary in the pop-up menu instead of replacing the original content. However, you will find the option to 'Replace' or 'Copy' on the pop-up.
