Quick Info
  • Windows does not have a built-in feature that lets you use your smartphone as a microphone for your PC.
  • The easiest way to do so is through the WO Mic app, though other third-party apps are also available.
  • You can use your iOS device as a microphone by connecting it via Wi-Fi through the WO Mic app to your Windows PC.
  • For Android devices, you also get the option to connect via Bluetooth, USB, and Wi-Fi Direct in addition to Wi-Fi.

Prerequisites

Since Windows does not have a built-in feature that lets you use your smartphone as a microphone, you will need to use the Wo Mic app for that purpose.

  1. Visit the WO Mic website on your computer and click on the 'WO Mic Installer for Windows' to download it.
  1. Once the installer is downloaded, install the program on your PC.
  2. For the program to run properly, you will also need to install the VC runtime redistributable from Microsoft's official website. Click on the version you want to install depending on your system.
  1. Now, open the Play Store on your Android device and install the WO Mic app. If you're using an iPhone, download the app from the App Store. Once the app is installed, you are ready to use your phone as a microphone for your PC.

Method 1: Via Wi-Fi (For iOS and Android)

To use your phone as a microphone in your Windows computer, both devices should be connected to the same network.

You will first need to configure and enable the Wi-Fi hotspot on your Android device before you can use it as a microphone via Wi-Fi direct.

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android device and tap on 'Portable Hotspot' or a similar option. It may be present inside the Networks or Connections category.
  2. Tap on the 'Set up portable hotspot' option.
  1. On the next page, provide a name and a password for the hotspot network. Usually, the device name is used as the network name but you can change it if you want.
  2. Then go back and tap on the 'Portable hotspot' toggle to turn it on.
  1. Now click on the Wi-Fi icon on the taskbar on your PC and click on the Android device name to connect to its hotspot. Enter the password you set for the hotspot to connect your PC.

  1. Similarly, on the desktop WO Mic app, select Wi-Fi Direct from the options on the left before clicking on the 'Connect' button.

Method 4: Via USB tethering (Android)

You can also use USB tethering to connect your Android device to your PC and use it as a microphone. As with the above options, you will have to select the 'USB' option in both the mobile WO Mic app and the desktop one to do so.
