The Spooky update for Megabonk adds two big progression goals: the Graveyard map (the game’s third stage) and a new character, Roberto. Both are locked behind a short chain of challenges that revolve around Calcium, the Desert map, and a set of themed bosses.
Prerequisites before you can reach Graveyard
Graveyard only appears once you can run Desert Tier 2 and play as Calcium. If you are still early in Megabonk, you need to clear a few unlocks first:
- Unlock Calcium by killing 1,000 Skeletons.
- Unlock the Desert map by completing Forest Tier 1 to unlock CL4NK, then finishing Forest Tier 2 as CL4NK.
- Unlock Desert Tier 2 by completing Desert Tier 1.
Once Calcium and Desert Tier 2 are available, you can start working on the Graveyard unlock.

Unlock the Graveyard map (Desert Tier 2 as Calcium)
Graveyard unlocks when you defeat the Undead Boss, also referred to in-game as Calcium’s Dad, during a Desert Tier 2 run while playing Calcium.
Step 1: Start a run on Desert Tier 2 with Calcium selected. Graves only appear when Calcium is your character.

Step 2: Explore the map until you find the first grave. It appears as a coffin-style object on the ground and is also marked as a boss icon on your minimap once discovered.
Step 3: Interact with the grave using the Disturb Grave prompt. A small White Ghost will spawn. Stay close, keep moving to the side to avoid projectile patterns, and burn it down.

Step 4: After the White Ghost dies, a yellow or white marker appears at the edge of your screen, pointing toward the next grave. Follow that marker to locate the second grave.
Step 5: Disturb the second grave to summon the Black Ghost. It hits harder and takes longer to kill than the first, but the pattern is the same: kite, keep your damage focused, and don’t linger in overlapping attacks.

Step 6: Follow the next marker to the third grave and disturb it to spawn the Purple Ghost. At this point, you should be noticeably stronger, so treat it as a mid-run boss check rather than a full fight.
Step 7: Track down the fourth grave from the new marker and disturb it to call in the Red Ghost. This is the last mini-boss before the main event, so make sure your build is stable, and you’re not on the brink of dying.
Step 8: Once the Red Ghost is down, a final marker leads you to a tall golden skeleton statue. Interact with the statue to summon the Undead Boss (Calcium’s Dad).

Calcium’s Dad shares patterns with other Desert bosses. He raises damaging rocks from the ground and fires a red laser that sweeps across the arena. Use Calcium’s high movement speed to circle him and step out of telegraphed rock spawns while keeping a lane open to dodge the laser.
Step 9: Finish the fight. Once Calcium’s Dad dies, a chest drops, and the Graveyard map unlocks permanently in your stage select. You do not need to survive to the end of the run; the unlock is granted as soon as the boss dies.

How to unlock the Scythe on Graveyard
Roberto’s starter weapon is the Scythe, and you need that weapon unlocked before Roberto becomes available. Scythe is tied to a boss called Big Bob inside the Graveyard map.
Step 1: Start a run on the newly unlocked Graveyard map with any character you’re comfortable winning with. There is no character restriction for Big Bob or the Scythe unlock.

Step 2: During the run, look for coffins scattered around the map. There are four in total. Each coffin is an interactable object similar to the graves on Desert but themed for Graveyard.

Step 3: Activate the first coffin. This summons a local boss inside the crypt instance. Kill it to receive a Crypt Key.
Step 4: Repeat the process for the remaining coffins. Each one you activate spawns another boss and rewards another Crypt Key when defeated. You need four Crypt Keys in total.

Step 5: Once you have four keys, use the exit route from the crypt to reach Big Bob’s arena. This behaves like a standard end-of-stage boss room.
Step 6: Defeat Big Bob. The fight includes a light mechanic reminiscent of the Forest boss: you unlock lamps to make him vulnerable and must stay inside light sources when the arena goes dark. If a dark-phase wave hits you outside the light, you die instantly.

Beating Big Bob unlocks the Scythe as a weapon option for future runs. With that condition met, you can move on to Roberto.
How to unlock Roberto (Spooky Steve on Graveyard)
Roberto is gated behind a second Graveyard boss, Spooky Steve, who appears in the crypt if you fail to escape in time. You do not need to defeat Big Bob and Spooky Steve in the same run, but you must already have the Scythe unlocked before Roberto becomes available.
Step 1: Start a new run on Graveyard. Any character can be used, but robust late-game builds such as Megachad or a well-invested Calcium are common picks for this fight.
Step 2: Progress into the crypt as normal. You still interact with coffins and move through the maze-like section, but this time, you intentionally do not reach or complete the crypt escape objective before the timer or conditions that trigger Spooky Steve.
Step 3: When you fail to escape the crypt in time, Spooky Steve spawns automatically. You stay in the crypt arena and transition directly into a boss fight.

Spooky Steve is defined by an enormous health pool — around 340.3Ud — rather than intricate movement patterns. The fight becomes a test of sustained DPS and survivability rather than dodging a complex set of mechanics. Many successful runs involve standing in a relatively small area and letting your build do the work.
Step 4: Use a high-DPS, scaling build. One strong option uses Megachad with the following core:
| Slot | Recommendations |
|---|---|
| Weapons | Aura, Dexecutioner, Frostwalker, Black Hole |
| Tomes | Size Tome, XP Tome, Cooldown Tome, Evasion Tome |
| Items | Moldy Cheese, Boss Buster, Big Bonk, Bob, Beefy Ring, Gym Sauce, Ghost |
The XP Tome keeps your levels climbing so Megachad’s Flex buff is active nearly all the time, providing near-invulnerability. Dexecutioner serves as the main damage source, so prioritize every damage and cooldown upgrade for that weapon. Items like Moldy Cheese, Big Bonk, and Boss Buster speed the kill but are not strictly mandatory if the core build is solid.
Alternative setups also work. Some players lean on Calcium with Dexecutioner, Frostwalker, and Black Hole, supported by attack speed, quantity, duration, and XP tomes. The key concepts remain the same: stack damage, lock Spooky Steve in place with crowd control, and sustain through the long health bar.
Step 5: Finish Spooky Steve. Once his massive HP bar finally drops to zero, Roberto unlocks as a playable character. You can die afterward without losing the unlock, just as with Calcium’s Dad and the Graveyard map.

What Roberto brings to your roster
Roberto’s primary draw is an items-focused passive that interacts heavily with chests and item pickups. He can spawn his own crates, which fits neatly into Megabonk’s meta where strong item setups are often more impactful than minor stat tuning.
Because he starts with the Scythe, Roberto naturally leans into builds that favor sweeping, close-range damage and high item density. Free or extra chests over the course of a run can snowball his power quickly, making him a compelling option once you have the Graveyard content on farm.
With the Graveyard map unlocked, the Scythe added to your weapon pool, and Spooky Steve defeated, the Spooky update’s main progression loop is complete. From there, the focus shifts to refining builds for Roberto and exploring the new map’s mechanics at higher difficulties.
