Nioh 3 crossplay and cross-progression (PS5 and PC)

How Nioh 3 handles cross-platform multiplayer and saves across PS5 and PC, and what that means before you buy.

Nioh 3 crossplay and cross-progression (PS5 and PC)

Nioh 3 leans hard into co-op, but its online systems stop at the platform border. If you’re trying to figure out whether you can squad up across PS5 and PC, or carry a save between them, the rules are strict and simple.

Quick answer: Nioh 3 does not support crossplay or cross-progression between PS5 and PC. Multiplayer only works with players on the same platform, and saves cannot be shared or transferred between platforms.

Nioh 3 crossplay status (PS5 vs PC)

Nioh 3 has online co-op on both PlayStation 5 and PC, but there is no cross-platform matchmaking of any kind. When you use the multiplayer options such as Summon Visitor, Become a Visitor, or Expedition, the game only connects you with others on the same system.

The official system page for Nioh 3 from Team Ninja explicitly notes that in multiplayer mode, crossplay between platforms is not compatible. In practical terms, this means:

  • PS5 players can only play online with other PS5 players.
  • PC players (Steam) can only play online with other PC players.
  • There are no mixed-platform Expeditions, mission joins, or summonings.

What this means for co-op with friends

If you plan to play Nioh 3 primarily in co-op with specific people, everyone in that group needs to be on the same platform. There is no workaround inside the game itself to bridge PS5 and PC.

To avoid one friend being locked out of your sessions, agree on a platform before anyone buys the game or starts investing time into progression. Once accounts and characters are established, there is no supported way to merge or realign them across platforms.

Nioh 3 cross-progression and saves

Nioh 3 also does not offer cross-progression between PS5 and PC. Each version maintains its own save data and progression, tied to that platform’s ecosystem.

That has a few direct consequences:

  • Clearing missions, earning gear, and leveling on PS5 does not unlock anything on PC.
  • Starting Nioh 3 on PC means you begin from scratch if you later buy the PS5 version, and vice versa.
  • There is no built-in cloud-sync between platforms; only standard platform features like PS5 cloud saves or Steam Cloud within each ecosystem.

Tip: Choose the platform where you expect to spend the most time, not just the one that’s convenient right now. With no cross-progression, switching later is effectively starting a new file.

Character creation codes and platform compatibility

Nioh 3’s character creation codes follow the same pattern: they are not cross-platform. A code generated on one platform only works for players on that same platform.

  • A character code shared by a Steam player can be used only by other Steam players.
  • A character code created on PS5 can only be used on PS5.

This is worth keeping in mind if you trade codes in communities that mix PC and console players. Always check which platform a code was created on before trying to use it.

How to verify your multiplayer restrictions in-game

The game’s own menus reinforce these limits once multiplayer unlocks.

Step 1: Progress through the opening until you reach a Shrine where the co-op menu becomes available. After the early tutorial section and first boss, you’ll see options such as Summon Visitor, Become a Visitor, and Expedition at Shrines.

Step 2: Open any of these co-op options and look at the matching settings. You can filter by mission, region, and friends, but there is no setting to change or enable platform mixing. Every match you find or host will be limited to your current platform.

Step 3: If you and a friend are on different platforms, try to match using the same mission, region, and a unique secret code. You will not see each other’s rooms or summons because the game never crosses the PS5/PC boundary.

The takeaway is blunt but useful: Nioh 3 treats PS5 and PC as completely separate online pools and save ecosystems. If co-op with friends or long-term character building is a priority, decide on a single platform early and plan to stay there.
