Pax Dei is a medieval fantasy MMO built around social play and player-made everything. Running on Unreal Engine 5, it trades traditional quest hubs for a sprawling sandbox where you gather, craft, build, and fight — often as part of a clan — to shape the world and your reputation.

Pax Dei release timeline and current status

  • Early Access began on June 18, 2024.
  • Version 1.0 launched on October 16, 2025, and the game is available now on PC.

It’s positioned as a long-term, persistent world. You buy the base game once to play; ongoing development adds content and systems over time.

How the world is structured

The map is split between relatively safe Heartlands and more dangerous Wilderness. In the Heartlands, you can claim a plot, build a home, and link plots with clanmates to form villages or fortified compounds. The Wilderness pushes risk and reward higher with stronger enemies, rarer materials, and friction with rival clans.

The economy is fully player-driven. Tools, clothing, armor, weapons, building pieces — everything comes from harvesting and crafting. There are no traditional NPC quest givers; goals emerge from your needs, your clan’s projects, and the mysteries hidden in the environment.

Core systems you’ll actually use

  • Harvesting and crafting: Traverse biomes to collect dozens of resources and unlock hundreds of recipes. Progress comes from refining materials and assembling increasingly complex gear and structures.
  • Building: Place your plot, snap building pieces together, and respect structural integrity so your creations hold. With coordinated plots, clans can construct villages or massive strongholds.
  • Trading: Set up a market stall on your plot to display and sell crafted goods or rare finds. Gold you earn in the world flows back into trade with other players.
  • Grace and Miracles: Spend the Grace you accrue to trigger Miracles that grant practical bonuses or powerful abilities.
  • Roles without classes: Mix equipment and skills to define how you contribute — gatherer, artisan, explorer, dungeon runner, frontline PvP — and swap as your needs change.

PvE and PvP: where danger lives

Expect tough PvE in ruins and dungeons that reward preparation and group play — wandering far from home undergeared is a quick way to lose progress. For PvP, the contested zone of Lyonesse removes safeguards: it offers valuable resources under full PvP rules, and death carries consequences. Trust matters there; safety comes from your party, your clan, and your planning.

Scale and social layer

  • Approximate size: about 300 km² across five provinces.
  • Settlements: 40 distinct home valleys to pick from for your plot or village.
  • Chat that travels: Link your Discord account to keep clan and friends chat going even when you’re out of game.

The size and valley system encourage communities to form natural hubs while leaving plenty of room for exploration and conflict.

Pax Dei is built for players who enjoy long-term projects and shared goals — gathering, crafting, and construction that pay off at village scale, with real stakes when you push into dangerous territory. If you expect guided questlines and solo-fast progression, this isn’t that kind of MMO. If you want a world that depends on what its community makes (and breaks), this is the point.
