Find Phantump (Wild Zone 13, night only)

Phantump is a Ghost/Grass-type that spawns in Lumiose City’s Wild Zone 13 after night falls. This area opens later in the story; progress to Main Mission 14 and reach Rank E to unlock it. If it’s daytime, sit on a nearby bench to skip ahead until night.

Once inside Wild Zone 13, search along the outer walls of the buildings. Phantump tends to appear close to these walls and is often seen near a roaming Alpha Trevenant.

Catch Trevenant (Alpha roaming option)

There is no standard non‑Alpha Trevenant spawn. Outside of evolving Phantump, your overworld option is an Alpha Trevenant that patrols the northern section of Wild Zone 13. It appears at a high level and is commonly present at night alongside Phantump spawns. This is the fastest path if you only need Trevenant registered.

Evolve Phantump into Trevenant (trade required)

Phantump evolves into Trevenant by trade. There is no Linking Cord in Pokémon Legends: Z‑A, so you must exchange with another player. After the trade completes and Phantump is returned, its evolution icon lights up and you confirm the evolution from your party menu.

  • Open the menu (X) and choose Link Trade.
  • Trade your Phantump with a trusted partner (and arrange its return).
  • When Phantump is back in your party, select it and choose Evolve.
Tip: If you’re filling out the Pokédex and don’t want to trade, the Alpha Trevenant in Wild Zone 13 is a valid alternative to capture.

Alpha spawn upgrade (crowns and replacement spawns)

Wild Zones can upgrade regular encounters to Alpha variants once you’ve caught every available species in that zone and earned its crown. After that, a species like Phantump can occasionally appear as an Alpha in place of its normal form when you revisit the area.

Stats and roles (Phantump and Trevenant)

Pokémon Key stats Notes
Phantump HP 43 · Atk 70 · Def 48 · SpA 50 · SpD 60 · Spe 38 (Total 309) Fragile and slow; best used to catch and evolve rather than battle long‑term.
Trevenant Base stat total 474; HP 85 · Def 78 · SpD 82 Bulky physical attacker with disruptive utility via Forest’s Curse.

Trevenant leans physical and benefits from straightforward coverage. Forest’s Curse can flip matchups by adding Grass typing to foes, opening them up to Fire, Flying, Ice, Bug, and Poison damage.

  • Core moves: Shadow Claw, Wood Hammer, Poison Jab, Forest’s Curse
  • Defensive spread (physical tank): 252 HP / 252 Def / 6 SpD
  • Defensive spread (special wall): 252 HP / 6 Def / 252 SpD
  • Aggressive spread: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 6 Spe

These builds make Trevenant a reliable pivot in Ghost- and Grass-leaning encounters while preserving enough HP to trade hits.

In short: unlock Wild Zone 13, hunt Phantump at night along the walls, and decide whether to evolve by trade or capture the roaming Alpha Trevenant. If you plan to keep Trevenant on your team, a physical set with Shadow Claw and Wood Hammer is straightforward and effective, with EVs tuned to the threats you face most.
