Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen split two useful item hunts across Kanto. Professor Oak’s Aides hand out rewards after specific Pokedex milestones, while collectible TMs are scattered through caves, routes, offices, and a few late-game areas.
Oak’s Aide locations and rewards
The Aides are mostly found in gatehouses, with one exception inside the Route 10 Pokemon Center near Rock Tunnel. The reward only triggers once you meet the Pokedex count he asks for.
| Location | Requirement | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Route 2 gate, first floor | 10 Pokemon in the Kanto Pokedex | HM05 Flash |
| Route 10 Pokemon Center, first floor | 20 Pokemon in the Kanto Pokedex | Everstone |
| Route 11 gate, second floor | 30 Pokemon in the Kanto Pokedex | Itemfinder |
| Route 16 gate, second floor | 40 Pokemon in the Kanto Pokedex | Amulet Coin |
| Route 15 gate, second floor | 50 Pokemon in the Kanto Pokedex | Exp. Share |
You know it worked when the Aide stops checking your progress and hands over the item immediately. If nothing happens, your Pokedex total is still below the required number.

Running Shoes from Oak’s Aide
There is also an early Aide encounter tied to movement rather than the Pokedex. As you leave Pewter City after earning the Boulder Badge, an Aide gives you the Running Shoes.

What matters most for Oak’s Aides
The key check is the number of Pokemon registered in the Kanto Pokedex. The two rewards most players look for earliest are Itemfinder at 30 and Exp. Share at 50, but Exp. Share is not the 30-Pokemon reward in FireRed and LeafGreen.
That distinction is easy to miss because the Aides are spread across different routes instead of staying in one place. If you are heading for Exp. Share, the correct stop is the Route 15 gate’s second floor after reaching 50 Pokemon.

For quick verification, remember the late sequence like this: Route 11 gives Itemfinder at 30, Route 16 gives Amulet Coin at 40, and Route 15 gives Exp. Share at 50.
