Pokémon Legends: Z‑A — How to change day and night on demand
Pokémon Legends: Z‑AUse benches in Lumiose City to fast‑forward time, unlocked after early missions; days last ~16 minutes, nights ~8.

Some Pokémon only appear after dark, and key activities shift with the clock. You don’t have to wait around. Once you reach early story milestones, benches across Lumiose City let you jump from day to night (and back) in seconds.
Change time of day (benches)
- Find a bench in Lumiose City (there’s usually one outside each Pokémon Center).
- Stand in front of the bench and press
A
. - Select
Kill some time here
.

- Confirm the prompt to wait until
nightfall
ormorning
(the option shown depends on the current time).

The second bench option, Hang out with your Pokémon
, displays your full party — a simple way to stage group snapshots.

When benches unlock (story progress)
The bench time-skip prompt appears after you clear early main missions. Expect it sometime between Mission 5 and Mission 8. If you don’t see the “Kill some time here” option yet, push the main story a bit further and check again at any bench.
What changes at night (and by day)
Daytime is for free exploration and routine tasks. At night, the city’s battle activity ramps up, and the Z‑A Royale opens for trainer bouts tied to rank progression.
You’ll get on-screen notices as the sun sets and rises. A colored ring around the minimap also tracks the remaining slice of day (blue) or night (red) at a glance.

How long day and night last
Time moves quickly, but not at a strict, unbroken pace. Here’s what to expect:
Period | Approx. real‑time length | Notes |
---|---|---|
Day | ~16 minutes | Measured while idle; UI ring around the minimap shows remaining time. |
Night | ~8 minutes (can stretch toward ~18 during active play) | Time can pause during cutscenes, battles, menus, and other interactions. |
Because certain scenes and interfaces pause the clock, the total “felt” length of a night can run longer than the idle estimate.

If you only need a specific time window for a spawn, a task, or a rank fight, benches are the fastest, friction‑free way to set the clock and move on.
