Styx: Blades of Greed lets you reallocate your skill points whenever you want, and the process is both simple and completely free. If you've been holding back on experimenting with different builds because you're worried about permanently locking yourself into a bad loadout, you can stop worrying — the respec system is designed to encourage flexibility.
Quick answer: Open the skill tree screen and choose to "forget" your skills. All spent points are fully refunded at no cost, letting you redistribute them however you like.

How the respec works
When you open the skill tree, each skill you've already purchased displays a label that reads something like "cost X points." This wording is misleading — it shows the original purchase price of the skill, not a penalty for removing it. Selecting the option to forget a skill returns every point you spent on it. You can forget individual skills or reset your entire tree at once, and you'll receive a full refund of all skill points in both cases.
There is no currency cost, no consumable item required, and no limit on how many times you can respec. You can do it once per mission or dozens of times across a playthrough without any downside.

Where to respec
You have two opportunities to access the skill tree and perform a respec. The first is between missions, during the intermission screen where you manage your loadout and abilities before heading into the next level. The second is at Skill Tree Tables scattered within mission zones themselves. These in-level tables let you rearrange your build mid-mission, which is useful if you realize partway through a level that a different set of abilities would serve you better.
How skill points (SP) are earned
Skill points come from completing mission objectives and earning performance medals at the end of each level. Each mission has a finite pool of SP you can earn, tied to objectives like finishing undetected, completing secondary goals, and achieving speed or no-kill benchmarks. Replaying a mission does not grant additional SP beyond what you've already earned from that level's objectives, so the total number of skill points in a playthrough is capped.
Because the overall SP pool is limited, the free respec system becomes especially valuable. Rather than needing to grind for extra points to try a new build, you simply reclaim the ones you've already earned and spend them differently.

Common confusion about the "cost" label
The most frequent source of confusion is the skill screen's display of a point cost next to skills you already own. Many players interpret this as a fee you must pay to unlearn the skill, which would effectively mean losing points every time you respec. In reality, the number shown is just the skill's original price tag. When you forget the skill, that exact amount is returned to your available point total. No points are lost in the process.
If you want to verify this for yourself, note your total available SP before and after forgetting a skill. The numbers will confirm a full, lossless refund every time.
The respec system in Styx removes any risk from experimenting with different skill combinations. Whether you want to lean into stealth, combat tools, clone abilities, or crafting-focused talents, you can freely swap between builds at any point in the campaign without sacrificing a single skill point.
