The Second Wind quest in Where Winds Meet sits inside the One Leaf, One Life: Phase II chain and focuses on stopping a man, Chen Cheng, from taking his own life. Progress comes from reaching the right locations in order, reacting quickly with Meridian Touch, and talking to his child, Chen Xiaoyu, before resolving things with a letter.
Second Wind quest rewards
Finishing Second Wind grants a small but useful bundle of currency and progression items:
| Reward type | Amount / effect |
|---|---|
| Echo Jade | x8 |
| Oscillating Jade | x2 |
| Kaifeng Exploration Points | x5 |
| Coins | x1000 |
| Stored EXP | x1000 |

How to start Second Wind (location and trigger)
The quest begins in Kaifeng, at South Gate Avenue near the river.
Step 1: Travel to South Gate Avenue and move toward the river’s edge until you see Chen Cheng standing at the brink, looking down at the water.

Step 2: Approach close enough for combat skills to register and use Meridian Touch on Chen Cheng to immobilize him before he jumps.

Stopping him in this first encounter automatically starts the Second Wind quest.
Second Wind walkthrough (all Chen Cheng locations)
First encounter at South Gate Avenue
Step 1: After you use Meridian Touch, wait for the short scene to play out; Chen Cheng collapses, recovers, and starts to walk away.
Step 2: As soon as he leaves, look at the ground where he fell and pick up the letter he drops. This letter stays in your inventory until the final step of the quest.

Second encounter at Tianjing Dock
After the first save, Chen Cheng relocates to the docks for another attempt.
Step 1: Head to Tianjing Dock. If there is no immediate quest marker, walk along the dock area and nearby waterfront until the Second Wind icon appears.
Step 2: When you find Chen Cheng again preparing to jump, close the distance and use Meridian Touch a second time to stop him.

Talk to Chen Xiaoyu at Willow Bank
With the second attempt stopped, the quest shifts focus to Chen Cheng’s child.
Step 1: Travel to Willow Bank, another riverside spot. Look for a child NPC named Chen Xiaoyu standing by the water.
Step 2: Speak with Chen Xiaoyu to advance the quest. Exhaust the available dialogue so the objective updates to the final location.

Final encounter near Hopewell Academy teleport stone
The last confrontation takes place close to a teleport point.
Step 1: Move to the area near the Hopewell Academy teleport stone. Watch for the Second Wind quest marker or scan the nearby riverbank if the icon is slightly offset from the stone itself.
Step 2: When you spot Chen Cheng on the edge again, rush in and use Meridian Touch for a third time to immobilize him before he jumps.

Step 3: After he is safe, talk to both Chen Cheng and Chen Xiaoyu if they are present. Let the conversation play out until the objective tells you to deal with the letter.
Step 4: Hand the previously collected letter to Chen Cheng. This resolves the family storyline, completes Second Wind, and delivers your rewards.

Quest bugs and softlocks players commonly hit
Second Wind is simple on paper, but several players have run into progression issues:
- The quest log says “Pick up the letter” even though nothing is visible on the ground.
- The man at South Gate Avenue never appears, but the letter or book is already lying there, and interaction doesn’t advance anything.
- Chen Xiaoyu fails to spawn at Willow Bank, leaving the tracker stuck on “Talk to the child.”
- Chen Cheng does not spawn at his next location, blocking the rest of the quest.
How to recover a stuck or bugged Second Wind quest
There is no in-quest reset button, but a few actions have helped players unstick Second Wind.
Step 1: If the prompt to pick up the letter does not appear, move away from the exact spot where Chen Cheng fell, then walk back slowly and rotate the camera. Interact with any glowing or highlighted item at his previous position.
Step 2: When Chen Xiaoyu or Chen Cheng does not spawn at their next location, fully quit to desktop (or close the client on console) and relaunch the game, then return to the relevant marker (South Gate Avenue, Tianjing Dock, Willow Bank, or Hopewell Academy).
Step 3: If the quest seems to have broken earlier—such as the man never spawning at the start but the item already being on the ground—focus on progressing a few main campaign missions. Some players have seen Second Wind reset to an earlier, working state after advancing the main story.
Step 4: If none of the above steps revive the quest and it remains your last blocker in a volume, contact official support through the game launcher or the publisher’s support portal and share your character, server, and quest state. Support staff can review stuck progression and apply server-side fixes when necessary.
Second Wind is a short quest that leans more on timing and map awareness than combat difficulty. Keeping Meridian Touch ready, visiting the three key locations in sequence, and paying attention to the letter and child NPC are enough to carry it through, as long as the quest state cooperates.
