Sorcerer Ascent offers a range of innate techniques and clans that shape your combat effectiveness in both PvE and PvP. Choosing the right combination depends on whether you're building for cursed energy damage or physical melee output. Techniques vary widely in their suitability for grinding, raids, and duels, while clans provide stat bonuses that amplify specific playstyles.
Quick answer: For cursed energy builds, pair Disaster Plants, Cursed Speech, or Straw Doll with the Choso clan. For melee builds, use Itadori clan with any technique that complements physical damage.

Innate Techniques Ranked by PvP and PvE Performance
Innate techniques unlock after completing the CT unlock quest past Jujutsu High. Each technique has distinct strengths in PvP duels and PvE grinding. The rankings below assume a cursed energy damage build; melee-focused players can progress effectively without a technique by investing in melee skills and energy coating.
S-Tier Techniques
Disaster Plants (Special rarity): In PvP, Disaster Plants excels due to stun moves like Flower Field that prevent combo breaks and venting. These stuns create reliable combo starters, letting you repeat high-damage sequences whenever the stun cooldown resets. In PvE, the technique delivers massive AoE damage for raids and includes cursed energy regeneration through its domain, enabling continuous ability spam.
Disaster Flames (Special rarity): This technique scales exceptionally well with stat investment and a CT damage-boosting clan, capable of one-shotting players in PvP combos. Every move deals extreme damage, though it lacks strong stun options compared to other S-tier choices. In PvE, Disaster Flames ranks A-tier because it performs poorly in the early game but becomes dominant once you invest heavily into curse technique damage stats.

Blood Manipulation (Special rarity): Blood Manipulation offers great damage and combos, but suffers from slow wind-ups. Experienced PvP opponents will dodge and punish these delays, requiring you to kite with ranged moves and master timing to offset the startup lag. The Choso clan's Stack move upgrade significantly improves mobility. In PvE, slow wind-ups matter less, allowing you to safely use high-damage ranged moves against bosses.
Cursed Speech (Glorious rarity): One of the best PvP techniques, Cursed Speech demands high skill but rewards precision. All moves deal massive damage, most go through blocks, and success depends on accurate aim. In PvE, the technique remains S-tier primarily due to its high damage output.
Straw Doll (Glorious rarity): Straw Doll becomes oppressive in PvP once you land the steal hair move, enabling you to kite and spam damage abilities. In PvE, it ranks A-tier with solid DPS but less dominance than in player combat.

A-Tier Techniques
Ratio (Glorious rarity): Ratio provides incredible flexibility for both PvP and PvE. Its fast moves, multiple dashes for mobility, and excellent chip damage support a hit-and-run playstyle. In PvE, it performs well but falls slightly behind S-tier options.
Explosive Flesh (Epic rarity): In PvP, Explosive Flesh is inconsistent—moves can be dodged individually due to startup lag, but landing an M1 combo followed by abilities deals massive damage. In PvE, catching enemies in combos is straightforward, making Explosive Flesh one of the most beginner-friendly techniques with exceptional damage for its rarity.
B-Tier Techniques
Blazing Courage (Epic rarity): Flame Roar stands out in PvP if you can land it, but other moves are difficult to combo into. Damage remains strong overall. In PvE, Blazing Courage offers decent DPS but cannot match higher-tier techniques.
C-Tier Techniques
Crystal Formation (Rare rarity): Crystal Formation is usable in PvP thanks to its counter ability, though main damage moves have startup lag. You can deal acceptable damage and benefit from high tankiness. In PvE, the technique provides good survivability and AoE damage with beginner-friendly mechanics, outperforming Earth Manipulation in both modes.
Earth Manipulation (Rare rarity): Earth Manipulation struggles in PvP due to slow moves and low damage. In PvE, it functions adequately, but better options exist at all levels.

Clan Rankings and Stat Bonuses
Clans determine your stat bonuses and directly influence build effectiveness. The best clan depends on whether you're maximizing cursed energy damage or physical melee damage. Common clans provide no bonuses.
S-Tier Clans
Choso (Special rarity): The top clan for cursed energy builds, Choso grants +20% CE damage, +10% health, and +25% cursed energy. It also replaces the Flowing Red Scale move in Blood Manipulation with Flowing Red Scale: Stack, which offers excellent mobility even if you don't use Blood Manipulation as your technique.
Itadori (Special rarity): The best clan for melee and weapon builds, Itadori provides +30% Black Flash damage, +15% health, and +18% physical damage. After landing four Black Flashes in a row, you unlock a special Black Flash. To perform Black Flash, equip the skill, use M1 attacks until the Black Flash icon lights up red, press the assigned button, then press it again when the flame indicator fills.

A-Tier Clans
Kamo (Glorious rarity): Kamo is the second-best cursed energy clan, offering +20% CE damage, +15% cursed energy, and a chance to start with Blood Manipulation. This makes Kamo ideal if you want to secure Blood Manipulation early and then reroll for Choso later.
Tsukumo (Glorious rarity): Tsukumo ranks third for cursed energy builds with +15% CE damage and +5% cursed energy.
Nanami (Glorious rarity): Nanami is the third-best melee clan, providing +5% physical damage, +10% health, and +5% cursed energy.
Inumaki (Glorious rarity): Inumaki offers +10% CE damage, +5% health, +20% cursed energy, and a chance to start with Cursed Speech. The clan is decent for cursed energy builds, but its main value lies in securing Cursed Speech, an S-tier technique.

B-Tier Clans
Todo (Epic rarity): Todo is the second-best melee clan with +10% health and +7% physical damage.
Kugisaki (Epic rarity): Kugisaki grants +5% cursed energy and +5% CE damage.
Kusakabe (Epic rarity): Kusakabe provides +5% health and +5% cursed energy.
C-Tier Clans
Nitta (Rare rarity): Nitta offers +3% CE damage.
Ino (Rare rarity): Ino grants +3% cursed energy.

Unlocking Domain Expansion
Domain Expansion becomes available at level 105. Speak to Kusakabe to receive the domain quest. You must have maximum mastery of your innate technique and obtain two items:
Soul Swap Stone: Drops from Luck 1/2/3 boxes, the Travel Merchant, and world event groups including Soldier Group, Skitterface Group, and Flies Group.
Domain Expansion Essence: Drops from Luck boxes and world event bosses such as Gloomhorn Curse (level 105+) and Grasshopper Curse boss (level 85+).
Rerolling Techniques and Clans
Soul Points enable you to reroll both innate techniques and clans. The most efficient method to farm Soul Points is through Raids. You can also obtain Soul Points from Luck boxes and active codes.
Obtaining Weapons
The most accessible weapon sources are the Hotagurawa boss and dungeons. You can also acquire the Nanami weapon from the Nanami boss.

Black Flash Mechanics
Black Flash unlocks from the Hanami boss in the Goodwill Exchange Event at Jujutsu High (level 40+). Use M1 attacks on the boss until you see spark effects, then continue M1-ing until you receive the Black Flash skill. Equip the skill, perform M1 attacks until the Black Flash icon turns red, press the assigned button, then press it again when the flame indicator fills to execute Black Flash.
You can only have one innate technique active per slot. Weapons remain accessible throughout progression, and Soul Points from Raids, Luck boxes, and codes allow you to adjust your technique and clan as your build evolves.
