The Outer Worlds 2 Otto puzzle — Free Market switchboard solution

From the station entrance, head toward your ship. On the right, spot the shimmering rift room. Just before the rift, crawl through the low gap in the right-hand wall, follow the short passage, then climb the ladder. You’ll reach a wall-mounted board with eleven levers and a sealed door with three indicator lights — that’s Otto’s lock.

The intended solution: use the N‑Ray Scanner

The puzzle is built around the N‑Ray Scanner, a gadget you acquire later on Golden Ridge as you progress the main story. With N‑Ray active, you can see the wiring behind the wall and trace three non‑overlapping paths from the three lights on the right of the board to the door on the left. Flip only the switches that keep each path continuous; complete one path, then the next, then the last.

Tip: If you’re visiting Free Market Station early and don’t have N‑Ray yet, you can still open the door by following the exact switch order below.

Otto’s switchboard solution (no N‑Ray required)

The board has three rows (top has 3 switches, middle has 4, bottom has 4). Read each row from left to right. Enter the following three sequences in order; each sequence corresponds to one lock on the door:

Lock Switch order (row, position)
Lock 1 Top row 3 → Top row 2 → Middle row 2 → Bottom row 1
Lock 2 Middle row 4 → Middle row 3 → Top row 1
Lock 3 Bottom row 4 → Bottom row 3 → Bottom row 2 → Middle row 1

Each correct sequence should light one of the three indicators green. When all three are lit, the saferoom door unlocks.

Note: In rare cases the layout can vary. If the door doesn’t open after the three sequences above, return later with the N‑Ray Scanner and trace the cables directly.

What’s inside Otto’s saferoom

Expect a small haul that reliably includes an Advanced Decryption Key, roughly mid‑400s Bits, a Triple Barrel Shotgun, and a readable journal entry tied to Otto. Minor loot can vary slightly from run to run.

If you only need Otto’s intel for the side quest

For “The Last Voyage of the ACS Free Market,” you can progress without opening the saferoom by passing a modest Engineering check with Otto. The saferoom is still worth cracking for the key, Bits, and weapon.

Whether you follow the wiring with N‑Ray or punch in the sequences above, the switchboard is meant to be solved in three clean passes. If you’re touring Free Market ahead of the Golden Ridge arc, the listed order gets you in now; otherwise, grab N‑Ray later and draw the paths at your own pace.
