Thousand-Mile Flight in Where Winds Meet explained

Thousand-Mile Flight is one of the four dedicated flying Lightness Skills in Where Winds Meet, letting your character launch into the air and cross long distances in a single sequence. It sits in the Movement → Lightness Skill category of Mystic Skills and works alongside Meteor Flight, Fan Glider, and Wind Rider.

Thousand-Mile Flight basics

Property Details
Skill name Thousand-Mile Flight
Type Mystic Art → Movement → Lightness Skill
Function Flying traversal tool that lets you soar forward across large distances
Region Usable where you have that region’s Lightness-enabling pendant (for early game, Qinghe’s Afterglow Pendant)
Vitality cost 15
Cooldown 1 second
Ranks/Tiers No additional ranks or tier breakthroughs

The skill’s animation pushes your character forward in the air “like a dragon,” and its main value is speed: you can clear terrain quickly, chain it with other Movement skills, and reposition for exploration or combat setups.

Requirements before Thousand-Mile Flight works

Simply unlocking Thousand-Mile Flight is not enough to fly freely. Two things have to be in place:

Requirement What it does
Unlock a flight-type Lightness Skill Gives you the Mystic Skill entry (Thousand-Mile Flight, Meteor Flight, etc.) in the Movement tab.
Equip the region’s Lightness pendant Enables Grand Lightness Skills (flying/sprinting) and Wallstride in that specific region.

For early-game Qinghe, that pendant is the Afterglow Pendant. Later regions use their own equivalents, such as the Flight Medallion in Kaifeng.

How to unlock Thousand-Mile Flight

Thousand-Mile Flight comes from early logins, not from a quest or drop:

Step Action Notes
1 Log in on 4 separate days Days do not have to be consecutive; they count toward A Warrior’s Journey progress.
2 Open A Warrior’s Journey This is the game’s login and progression reward track.
3 Navigate to the Day 4 reward Look for the entry that grants Thousand-Mile Flight (scroll of Mystic Skills / Thousand-Mile Flight reward).
4 Manually claim the reward The skill is not applied automatically; you must press the claim button on that tile.

Once claimed, Thousand-Mile Flight appears in the Mystic Skills interface under Movement.

How to make flying possible in Qinghe (Afterglow Pendant and Lightness)

Thousand-Mile Flight is a “Grand Lightness Skill.” To actually use Grand Lightness in Qinghe, the character must first unlock the region’s Lightness capability and then obtain and equip the Afterglow Pendant.

Step 1 – Unlock Meteor Flight via the Afterglow Jianghu Legacy

Meteor Flight is the first flight Lightness Skill and is tied to the Afterglow Jianghu Legacy:

  • Open your Journal and go to the Jianghu Legacy tab.
  • Select the Legacy named Afterglow (it appears early in the list).
  • Track and complete the quest chain, which starts with a martial master disguised as a fisherman near Moonveil Mountain in Qinghe.

The quest includes a short tutorial segment that teaches basic aerial moves (jumping, double jumping, and moving between floating objects). Finishing the dialogue at the end of the segment grants Meteor Flight and progresses the Afterglow story, but the Lightness system is not yet fully enabled.

Step 2 – Reach Qinghe Exploration Level 4 for the Afterglow Pendant

The Afterglow Pendant is what actually unlocks free use of Grand Lightness Skills and Wallstride within Qinghe.

Item Effect in Qinghe How to obtain
Afterglow Pendant Allows free use of Grand Lightness Skill and Wallstride while in Qinghe. Reach a set Exploration Level in Qinghe, typically counted at 4,000 Exploration Points (Level 4).

Exploration Points in Qinghe come from:

  • Opening chests.
  • Discovering oddities.
  • Clearing outposts.
  • Triggering encounters and other regional activities.

When your Qinghe Exploration reaches the required threshold, claim the Afterglow Pendant from the Exploration reward screen.

Step 3 – Turn the pendant into actual Lightness access

Once you have the pendant, there is a final bit of setup:

  • Make sure the Afterglow Pendant is equipped in your accessory slot.
  • Return to the fisherman linked to Afterglow and hand over or show the pendant when prompted to complete the Jianghu Legacy’s follow-up step.

Finishing this interaction formally unlocks the Lightness Skill system for that region, so flight skills like Meteor Flight and Thousand-Mile Flight will work while you are in Qinghe.

How to equip Thousand-Mile Flight in the Mystic Skills menu

With Lightness unlocked and Thousand-Mile Flight claimed, the next job is to put it into your movement kit.

  • Open the Develop menu.
  • Go to AbilitiesMystic Skills.
  • Switch to the Movement tab on the right side of the Mystic Skills screen.
  • Locate the Thousand-Mile Flight entry in the list of Lightness Skills.
  • Assign or equip Thousand-Mile Flight into the Lightness slot currently occupied by another flight tool (for example, swap it with Meteor Flight).

The game treats Thousand-Mile Flight and Meteor Flight as alternative Grand Lightness Skills; you choose which one is active for long-distance aerial travel.

How to use Thousand-Mile Flight in the air

Once Thousand-Mile Flight is equipped and you are standing in a region where your pendant applies, the controls are simple and mirror Meteor Flight:

  • Jump using your normal jump key or button.
  • Hold the jump key or button (for example, Space on PC) to trigger your equipped Grand Lightness Skill.
  • Keep holding to maintain the initial launch; tap additional jumps or directional input as required by your movement chain.

The skill consumes Vitality each time it is triggered and respects the short cooldown, so you can’t spam it infinitely in one continuous stream, but the low cooldown keeps it available for near-constant traversal.

Camera settings that make Thousand-Mile Flight easier to control

Grand Lightness animations can feel dramatic, and the default camera tries to track that spectacle. There is a dedicated setting that makes Thousand-Mile Flight easier to steer:

  • Open the settings menu.
  • Find the camera options linked to movement or Lightness Skills.
  • Switch the Grand Lightness Skill camera setting to a freer or more manual option.

With a freer camera, you can rotate and look around during flight more comfortably, which helps when threading between cliffs, aiming for rooftops, or chaining into wall runs.

How Thousand-Mile Flight fits with other Lightness Skills

Thousand-Mile Flight is only one piece of the broader Movement toolkit. Other Lightness Skills either improve flight or expand how you move once you are in the air.

Lightness / Movement Skill Role How to get
Meteor Flight First flight-type Lightness Skill; fast, meteor-like dash through the sky. Complete the Afterglow Jianghu Legacy.
Thousand-Mile Flight Alternative Grand Lightness flight with different visuals and feel. Claim Day 4 login reward in A Warrior’s Journey.
Fan Glider Gliding-style flight that lets you descend and roam in the air. Reach 6,000 Qinghe Exploration Points.
Wind Rider Another flight tool, focused on drifting with the wind. Reach 7,000 Qinghe Exploration Points.
Threefold Skywalk Triple jump in the air; core to chaining any aerial skill. Available by default.
Skywalk Dash Forward dash after using Threefold Skywalk. Available by default.
Mighty Drop / Safe Mighty Drop Fast downward landing from the air, with Safe Mighty Drop removing fall damage. Mighty Drop is default; Safe Mighty Drop is a first-time reward for clearing Mysterious Outpost.

Thousand-Mile Flight slots into this system as a stylish, fast way to cover ground. You can, for example, use Threefold Skywalk to gain extra height, trigger Thousand-Mile Flight to surge forward, then end the sequence with Safe Mighty Drop if you need to land quickly and safely.

Once Thousand-Mile Flight is unlocked, paired with the correct regional pendant, and equipped in the Movement tab, it becomes one of the most convenient ways to explore Where Winds Meet’s open world. The only ongoing requirements are remembering to claim the Day 4 reward, keeping the right accessory equipped for the region you are in, and swapping between Meteor Flight and Thousand-Mile Flight depending on which animation and feel you prefer.
