The Find my iPhone feature is one of the best things on your iPhone. It ensures that your phone isn’t misused by anyone if lost or stolen. The service is not only available on your iPhone but your Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and even the AirPods.
In this guide, we’ll tell how to turn off Find my iPhone. But before that, you should know that it’s a very important feature and you should keep it enabled on your device unless you want to format or sell it.
Why you shouldn’t turn off Find my iPhone
- It lets you check your device location when lost or stolen.
- Play/ring your device so you can pinpoint its location when you’ve misplaced it in your home, office, etc.
- Remotely put your device in Lost Mode to immediately lock it down, and display a message on the screen with your contact info, so whoever finds it can call you.
- Remotely erase your device if it has fallen into the wrong hands.
- Activation Lock. When Find my iPhone is enabled on your device, your Apple ID will be required to erase or reactivate it.

How to Turn Off Find my iPhone
You can turn off Find my iPhone on your device easily when you have it in your possession. However, if you’ve sold or gave away your device, you can also remotely turn off Find my iPhone from iCloud.com, but know that if the device is online, you’ll have to remotely erase the device first to be able to remove Find my iPhone protection from it.
- Go to Settings on your iOS device.
- Tap Your Name on top of the settings screen.
- Select iCloud, scroll down a bit and tap Find my iPhone.
- Turn off the toggle for Find my iPhone.
- Insert your Apple ID and Password, then tap Yes to confirm.
How to turn off Find my Mac
Like iOS devices, turning off Find my Mac is also possible from both your Mac and from the iCloud account.
- Click the Apple menu on your Mac computer.
- Select System Preferences, then click iCloud.
- Deselect Find my Mac option, and enter your Apple ID password when asked.
Turn off Find my iPhone online from iCloud.com
- Go to icloud.com and login with the Apple ID associated with your iOS device.
- Click Find iPhone app icon on the iCloud dashboard.
└ You might get a prompt to provide your Apple ID password again, do it. - Click All Devices dropdown on the top bar.
- Select the device you wish to remove.
└ Make sure the device is Offline, else you’ll have to remotely erase it first to be able to remove Find iPhone protection from it. - Click Remove from Account link on the device options screen.
- You’ll get a confirmation popup, read it carefully and then click Remove if you agree.

How to turn off Find my iPhone on Apple Watch and AirPods
- Make your device offline.
- Apple Watch: Turn it off.
- AirPods: Put them in the case.
- Go to icloud.com and login with the Apple ID associated with your Mac.
- Click Find iPhone app icon on the iCloud dashboard.

- Select your Apple Watch or AirPods from the list of devices.
