Litwick is one of the few Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A that never appear in the Wild Zones. If it’s the last gap in your Kalos Dex, the good news is that it isn’t missable — but you do have to know which version of the sewers to enter and how to reach the back rooms where it spawns.

When Litwick becomes available
Litwick only appears after the mid-game sewer segment tied to Main Mission 19, “Reaching Rank D”. During this mission, you track down Gwynn in the Lumiose Sewers before your promotion match with Ivor. From that point on, Litwick is associated with this deeper sewer layout rather than any surface Wild Zone.
You can catch Litwick during that first trip if you detour to the back of the sewer map, but the story pressure and forced exit make it easy to leave without ever seeing it. That doesn’t lock you out permanently; you can re-enter later through a different route.
How to enter the Lumiose Sewers
Story access during Main Mission 19
The first time you see the Lumiose Sewers is automatic: progressing Main Mission 19 sends you underground as part of the search for Gwynn. You don’t have to do anything special to unlock this route, but there is one important mechanical requirement.
| Requirement | What you need |
|---|---|
| Obstacle removal | A Pokemon that knows Ice Beam to break ice barriers in the sewers |
| TM location | Ice Beam TM is found in Wild Zone 12 |
Once you’re inside for the mission, you can explore side rooms, but the narrative eventually pushes you onward and back out. If you don’t deliberately push into the far northern chambers, you’ll likely never see Litwick on that run.
How to return to the sewers in the post-game
After the story segment, the game stops sending you back underground. To make Litwick catchable again in the late game and post-game, you need a separate entrance tied to a side mission in Bleu Sector 3.
Unlocking the sewer entrance with Side Mission 57
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Progress the main story until more of central Lumiose and Bleu Sector 3 are open. |
| 2 | In Bleu Sector 3 (north side of the city, facing Wild Zone 5), pick up Side Mission 57, “The Camerupt Entrepreneur”. |
| 3 | Accepting this mission opens a manhole-like entrance into the Lumiose Sewers from Bleu Sector 3. |
| 4 | Use the Travel List to fast travel near this entrance whenever you want to hunt Litwick. |
This Bleu Sector 3 entrance drops you into the same deeper sewer complex used in the Gwynn mission, including the northern rooms where Litwick appears. The earlier Saison Canal sewer section and other shallow tunnels do not have Litwick spawns.
Which sewer has Litwick (and which does not)
Players often confuse the two sewer layouts in Lumiose. Only one contains Litwick.
| Sewer area | How it’s unlocked | Litwick spawns? |
|---|---|---|
| Saison Canal sewers / first shallow section | Early access via a canal-side entrance | No Litwick spawns |
| Deeper Lumiose Sewers (Gwynn quest layout) | Main Mission 19 and later via Bleu Sector 3 entrance from Side Mission 57 | Yes – Litwick appears in the back/northern rooms |
To finish your Dex or hunt for better natures and shinies, ignore the Saison Canal sewers and always use the Camerupt Entrepreneur entrance in Bleu Sector 3. That route leads to the correct map.
Exact Litwick locations inside the Lumiose Sewers
Inside the deeper sewers, Litwick is concentrated toward the back half of the map, especially in the northern rooms. Several layouts and routes lead to it; the common thread is that you keep pushing north and into dead-end chambers instead of exiting at the first opportunity.
Back-left room (endgame Dex cleanup)
From the Bleu Sector 3 entrance:
- Move through the central corridors until you reach the first major intersection.
- Turn into the left-hand path and continue, using jumps and ramps to cross gaps as needed.
- Keep following the western then northern paths toward the top-left room of the map.
Players who fully explore this corner consistently find at least one Litwick as a static or very common spawn. Haunter and other Ghost-types often share the area.
Guaranteed Litwick pair near a TM
Another notable spot in the deeper sewers features two Litwick clustered near a TM on a narrow northern corridor. From a mid-map entrance to this layout:
- Walk straight ahead to the first big intersection.
- Take an immediate left and drop down a ledge.
- At the next intersection, take another immediate left into a long hallway that ends at a wall and a TM.
At the far end of that hallway, two Litwick spawn beside the TM. These can be repeatedly despawned and respawned by walking to the wall and back down the corridor, which makes this route especially appealing for shiny or nature hunting.
Ice barrier shortcut room
One Litwick cluster is accessible only after you clear an ice barrier:
- Find the frozen barricade deeper in the sewers and break it with a Pokemon that knows Ice Beam.
- Cross the newly opened path to a small side room populated by multiple Litwick.
This room gives fast repeat encounters once unlocked, and it’s easier to work with than rooms crowded with Haunter.
How to reach the sewers from Vernal Pokémon Center
If you’d rather walk from a familiar landmark, Vernal Pokémon Center is the most common starting point players use to re-enter the sewers.
| Step from Vernal Pokémon Center | Direction |
|---|---|
| 1. Exit the center and head left around the nearby buildings. | West and then south |
| 2. Look for a narrow gap between buildings on the right side. | Turn right into the alley |
| 3. Follow the back alley to a corner with purple sludge blocking a path. | Squeeze through to the blockage |
| 4. Use any Water-type move to clear the sludge. | Removes the obstacle permanently |
| 5. Continue down into the darker sewer entrance and speak to the NPC offering a challenge/side mission. | Accept to gain sewer access |
Once you’ve accepted the mission at this entrance at least once, you can treat it as a standing gateway to the deeper Lumiose Sewers, even if you haven’t finished the side objective itself.
Endgame Litwick hunting and spawn behavior
Litwick behaves more like a static or guaranteed spawn than a skittish overworld encounter. Once you’re in the correct sewer, it typically:
- Appears reliably in the designated back rooms rather than roaming widely.
- Does not flee from the player at long range like some nervous species.
- Can be approached and battled in a straightforward way.
If it’s not visible on a visit, you can reset the local spawns by leaving and re-entering the room or using the Travel List to hop out and back into the sewers. Players who felt “unlucky” and thought they’d missed their one shot generally start seeing Litwick once they focus on the correct sewer layout and use these resets.
Shiny and nature hunting for Litwick
Because Litwick only resides in the Lumiose Sewers, that area is the only place to hunt for shiny Litwick or specific natures.
- Static pair near the TM: walking to the end wall and back quickly despawns and respawns the two Litwick there, making them ideal for repetitive checks.
- Back-left room: offers extra encounters when you want more than two Litwick per loop.
For story play, Modest and Timid are popular natures, leaning into Litwick’s role as a special attacker. If you land a Litwick with a poor nature, you can correct it later with Nature Mints purchased from vendors in Lumiose once you’ve unlocked Mint shops.
How to evolve Litwick into Lampent and Chandelure
Once you have the candle Pokemon, finishing the line is straightforward, but split between leveling and an item.
| Stage | Requirement | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Litwick → Lampent | Reach level 41 | Litwick evolves automatically when prompted |
| Lampent → Chandelure | Use a Dusk Stone on Lampent | Lampent evolves into Chandelure |
Dusk Stones eventually become purchasable at the Stone Emporium in southern Lumiose, off Vernal Avenue, once the main storyline is complete. Before they appear on sale, Dusk Stones can be picked up as overworld Poké Ball items or received from specific side missions, so it’s worth grabbing any evolution stones you see on the ground during exploration.
For players who delay training Litwick, Lampent can also be found later in Wild Zone 17, in the bottom-right area of that zone. That alternate catch method still doesn’t remove the need to visit the sewers at least once if you want Litwick’s own Pokédex entry.
Put simply: Litwick lives and dies by the deeper Lumiose Sewers. Progress the story to Main Mission 19, unlock the Bleu Sector 3 entrance with Side Mission 57, and push all the way to the northern rooms. Once that loop is set up, filling in Litwick, Lampent, and Chandelure in your Pokedex becomes a routine sewer run instead of a one-time missable.
