Where Winds Meet Bai Rong guide and Peach Blossom quest locations

Songstress Bai Rong sits at the center of one of Where Winds Meet’s best early side stories. She’s your way into the Heroic Assembly, she hands you the distinctive Peach Blossom boat, and she also ties into a later “Peach Blossoms” challenge that quietly asks you to track her down again.

The game does not explain her movements clearly, which is why many players lose track of her after becoming a VIP of the Assembly of Heroes. Her route, however, is fixed once you know the sequence the game expects.

How Bai Rong fits into Shadows in Bloom

Bai Rong appears during the Jianghu Legacy quest “Shadows in Bloom” in Kaifeng. The broad structure looks like this:

Stage Location What Bai Rong does
1. Outside Revelry Hall Velvet Shade bridge Interrupts the gatekeeper and proposes a tuning test.
2. Tuning test Stone bridge entrance Asks you to play a melody on flower drums.
3. Access to Heroic Assembly Boat to Revelry Hall Gives you the Peach Blossom boat once you impress her.
4. VIP status Heroic Assembly / Revelry Hall Her approval is what effectively marks you as a VIP guest.
5. Post‑quest encounters Revelry Hall & Radiant Pavilion Appears as a follow‑up character for Peach Blossoms content.

The tuning scene is the first gate: until you clear it, you cannot reach Revelry Hall or begin the investigation that leads to Nimbus Tower and Qin Ruolan.

How to pass Bai Rong’s tuning test

The tuning test comes as soon as you “Attempt to Attend the Heroic Assembly.” You are disguised as Master Jiang Yi, who is supposed to be a musical prodigy. Bai Rong uses this to test you in front of the Revelry Hall manager.

Choice Difficulty What happens
“Hard” Higher You must play the melody entirely by ear with no hints.
“Easy” Lower Bai Rong spells out the notes for you and the test becomes trivial.

Choosing the easy option has no story penalty and makes the puzzle transparent. Bai Rong sings “Deep Longing,” then explicitly breaks it down into the note sequence:

Sol, La, Do, Mi, Re

Each of the flower drums in front of you corresponds to a traditional Chinese scale degree:

Western note Drum name
Do Gong
Re Shang
Mi Jue
Sol Zhi
La Yu

To match her tune, you must strike the drums in this exact order:

Zhi → Yu → Gong → Jue → Shang

Each correct drum lights up with a pink hue. If a drum doesn’t glow, you hit the wrong one; simply try again. Once the pattern is complete, she acknowledges your “talent,” hands you the Peach Blossom boat, and the boatman accepts you as a special guest to Revelry Hall.

Finding Bai Rong again after you become a VIP

Clearing “Shadows in Bloom” and becoming an honored guest of the Heroic Assembly unlocks a quieter layer of content around Bai Rong and the Peach Blossoms challenge. The game treats this as an ambient encounter rather than a marked quest, which is why she can be difficult to track down later.

Step 1 – Check Revelry Hall’s third floor

If you return to Revelry Hall after finishing the main investigation, Bai Rong may not be present in the obvious performance spaces. In that case, the game expects you to “re‑establish contact” by finding her private room first:

  • Travel back to Revelry Hall by boat as a VIP.
  • Use the interior stairs to reach the third floor.
  • Look for Bai Rong’s chamber – the same area where she invites you after the drinking and pitch‑pot scenes during the quest.

Interacting with her here refreshes her state and effectively tells the game you’re ready to follow her again. If she is missing from later spots, this floor is the first place to check.

Step 2 – Follow the music to the Radiant Pavilion

Once Bai Rong has been “seen” at Revelry Hall after your VIP promotion, she relocates to a quieter performance space referred to as the Radiant Pavilion (sometimes rendered as “Radiant Pavion” in player discussions). The trick is that there is no hard waypoint; you’re expected to navigate by sound.

The pattern works like this:

  • Head into the Assembly area where the smaller stages and pavilions cluster around the water.
  • Listen for a distinct solo instrument line drifting over the ambient noise. Players describe it as clearly separated from the crowds: not ensemble music, but a focused performance.
  • Move in the direction where the music grows louder. If the sound fades, you walked past the correct corridor or balcony and should double back.

The Radiant Pavilion itself is a raised structure with a clear vantage over the water, often reached by side corridors rather than the main central hall route. When you enter the right space, the music becomes fully audible, and Bai Rong appears in view.

Tip: If you hear nothing at all, return to the third floor of Revelry Hall and confirm you’ve spoken to her there at least once after becoming a VIP.

How the Peach Blossoms challenge resolves

Meeting Bai Rong at the Radiant Pavilion is the key to progressing the Peach Blossoms‑related objective that many players see in their challenge list.

The flow is simple once you arrive:

  • Approach Bai Rong in the Radiant Pavilion and initiate a conversation.
  • Return the peach blossom hairpin if you picked it up in her room during the Revelry Hall scenes.
  • Watch the short follow‑up interaction, which acts as an epilogue to her earlier flirtation and your shared performance.

For some players, this scene feels abrupt because there is no big fight or decision; the “quest” is essentially a character beat that acknowledges your earlier choices and wraps up the Peach Blossoms flavor text. Once you’ve given her the hairpin and heard out the conversation, that particular challenge is effectively completed.

Why Bai Rong matters to the larger story

Even outside the Peach Blossoms content, Bai Rong is more than a one‑off NPC. Her role ties together several threads:

Element How Bai Rong connects
Nine Mortal Ways She works alongside disciples trying to recover Aunt Han’s “list of faceless ones,” giving the sect a foothold inside Velvet Shade.
Heroic Assembly access Her tuning test is the diegetic reason a ragged wanderer can enter an elite gathering under Jiang Yi’s identity.
Jungan envoy plot Her Peach Blossom boat and connections put you in the room where the envoy’s disappearance unfolds.
VIP status Her endorsement converts your one‑time infiltration into a standing invitation to the Assembly of Heroes.
Romance and tone Her banter, drinking games, and the hairpin epilogue soften a story otherwise driven by espionage and state secrets.

Following Bai Rong from the stone bridge, through the flower drums, up to her third‑floor room, and finally to the Radiant Pavilion is a good example of how Where Winds Meet uses music and social spaces to hide story beats in plain sight. If the Peach Blossoms challenge is still sitting unfinished in your log, the solution is almost always the same: go back to Revelry Hall, listen for a lone instrument, and let it lead you to her.
