Where Winds Meet Beg Emote and Giveaway emote explained

Begging in Where Winds Meet is more than a roleplay flourish. It is tied to sect errands, multiplayer social tasks, and a small economy of emotes, bowls, and NPCs that many players miss or misread on first contact.

How begging works in Where Winds Meet

The game treats begging as a synchronized emote interaction between two players:

  • One player uses the Beg emote to receive coins.
  • Another player uses the Giveaway emote nearby to donate coins.

When both emotes line up in multiplayer, coins change hands, and relevant Jianghu errands or sect dailies (like Nine Mortal Ways/Beg sect tasks) can progress. There is no traditional “trade window” for this; the whole thing is emote-driven.

Because of that, you need three things before any of it works:

  • The Beg emote unlocked and on your emote wheel.
  • The Giveaway emote unlocked for whoever is donating.
  • Both players standing close together in online (multiplayer) mode.

How to unlock the Giveaway emote

The Giveaway emote is the key to helping beggars and completing many “give to others” errands.

Mode Location NPC What to do
Multiplayer (online) Qinghe / Blissful Retreat, Merit Pool fountain Le Yuan Talk to learn Giveaway; then use Giveaway in the fountain six times

In the online hub, head to the Qinghe / Blissful Retreat area and look for the Merit Pool icon near the coastline and a large fountain. On the west side of that village area, you will find the NPC Le Yuan near the water.

Speak to Le Yuan and choose the dialogue option to learn the Giveaway emote. After that, stand in the fountain and perform Giveaway six times. Doing this unlocks a batch of emotes, including Beg if you do not already have it, and permanently adds Giveaway to your emote list.

How to unlock the Beg emote and get a bowl

There are two main routes into the Beg emote:

Mode NPC / Place What you obtain Notes
Solo Wine / Honest Merchant near a pond or circular plaza Beg emote and begging bowl Sold as an action/pose; sometimes limited stock
Multiplayer Merit Pool area Beg emote (via Le Yuan / Merit Pool unlock) Can appear as part of the batch unlocked with Giveaway

In solo mode, look for the Wine Merchant or Honest Merchant standing near a small pond or circular gathering area. This NPC sells:

  • A bowl used for the begging pose.
  • The Beg action itself.

Once purchased, Beg appears in your emote/pose list. The merchant’s stock can appear “sold out” if you already bought the emote on that character.

In multiplayer, if you complete the Merit Pool interaction with Le Yuan and spam Giveaway in the fountain as described earlier, the Beg emote can also unlock as part of that reward bundle.

How to open and use the emote menu

For both Beg and Giveaway, everything runs through the emote interface.

Platform Action Result
PC Press F2 Opens the Function Wheel / emote window
Controller Hold the Function Wheel button (configurable) Opens the emote wheel

Once the wheel is open:

  • Highlight Beg or Giveaway with your cursor or stick.
  • Release the button to perform that gesture.

From the cosmetic or appearance menus, you can pin Beg and Giveaway to the wheel so they are easier to reach when you are in a crowded hub.

How to beg from other players

To actually “beg” and receive coins:

  • Switch to multiplayer/online mode.
  • Equip a bowl if you have one, for the classic pose (not strictly required for sect checks but useful for clarity).
  • Open the emote wheel and select Beg.
  • Stay still and visible so other players can see you are begging.

For sect errands such as Nine Mortal Ways’ “receive coins through begging” or “Little by Little”, the completion check expects you to receive a Giveaway from another player while you are in the Beg pose. Simply looping Beg on your own will not advance the objective.

Two hotspots make this easier:

  • Inside the Merit Pool fountain in Qinghe/Blissful Retreat, many players gather there to farm their own Giveaway tasks, so there is usually someone ready to donate.
  • The marked begging spot in Qinghe – a dedicated location where players often coordinate Beg/Giveaway interactions.
Tip: if the map feels empty, type briefly in local chat asking for a Giveaway while you Beg. This tends to be faster than silently waiting.

How to give coins to beggars

Donating coins works the same way, from the opposite side.

Role Required emote What to do
Beggar Beg Stand still, use Beg, keep the pose active
Donor Giveaway Stand close to the beggar and perform Giveaway

Step-by-step as the donor:

  • Confirm you have the Giveaway emote unlocked from Le Yuan / Merit Pool.
  • Find a player already using the Beg emote (bowl out, seated, or kneeling pose).
  • Stand close to them, facing them.
  • Open the emote menu (F2 on PC or your wheel button) and select Giveaway.

If everything lines up, your Giveaway animation will send coins to that player. When the recipient’s sect daily requires “receive others’ Giveaway through Begging,” that single completed interaction is enough to tick the objective.

Important clarifications:

  • NPCs do not count for Beg/Giveaway sect dailies. Both emotes must be used between players.
  • Simply standing near a beggar and using random emotes does nothing; it must be Giveaway.

How Beg and Giveaway interact with sect errands

Sect errands and dailies often use precise wording that hides the emote requirement. Two common patterns are:

  • Receive others’ Giveaway through Begging” – you must be in the Beg pose while another player performs Giveaway on you once.
  • Give coins to others” or similar – you must use Giveaway on a player who is currently Begging.

Both count as Jianghu errands that reward sect reputation. Reputation can then be exchanged in sect shops for cosmetics, outfits, and other vanity items tied to each sect’s visual identity.

Note: some versions of the Beg emote obtained near Merit Pool are temporary (for about a day) unless you purchase the permanent version from the Honest Merchant. If Beg vanishes after working for a while, revisiting that merchant to buy the emote again usually fixes it.

Common problems and quick checks

Most frustrations with begging in Where Winds Meet come from a few repeated issues. Running through a short checklist usually resolves them.

Symptom Likely cause What to check
Beg sect daily not progressing No real Giveaway interaction Ensure another player uses Giveaway on you while you are Begging in multiplayer
No option to “give” to a beggar Expecting a prompt instead of using emotes Unlock Giveaway from Le Yuan / Merit Pool and use it manually via the emote wheel
Beg emote missing from wheel Not unlocked or temporary version expired Revisit the Wine/Honest Merchant or complete Merit Pool steps again
Giveaway does nothing on NPCs System is player-only for sect tasks Use Beg/Giveaway interactions only between players when doing errands

Once Beg and Giveaway are correctly unlocked and pinned to your wheel, the whole system becomes a quick social loop in Qinghe’s busy hubs: beg in the fountain when you need coins or daily credit, then swap to Giveaway to return the favor for others.
