Where Winds Meet: Completing the Bones' Lament Wandering Tale in Hexi

Bones' Lament is a short Wandering Tales quest tucked away in the Hexi region's Jade Gate Pass, added as part of the Version 1.4 Home Afar update for Where Winds Meet. You'll stumble across a sentient skeleton propped against a tomb near a lake, and fulfilling its final wish requires a specific item — or a clever Mystic Skill workaround — plus one last push in the right direction.

Quick answer: Use the Glow of Fireflies Mystic Skill (or give the Lullaby of Fireflies item) near the skeleton at Heroic Tomb, then use Meridian Touch to rotate it clockwise. A cutscene plays, and the quest completes.

Finding the skeleton at Heroic Tomb

Head to the Ayisu sub-region, south of Jade Gate Pass in Hexi. The Heroic Tomb sits near a lake in this area. Look to the west side of the lake for a skeleton leaning against a tomb. You may also notice an old woman begging and the sound of a baby crying nearby, which makes the spot easier to identify. Interact with the skeleton to pick up the quest clue — it will mumble something about a "firefly song."

Calming the skeleton with fireflies

There are two ways to satisfy the skeleton's request for a firefly melody, and you only need one of them.

Option A — Glow of Fireflies Mystic Skill

Equip the Glow of Fireflies Mystic Skill and activate it near the skeleton. This calms it down, though it will continue weeping. This method lets you skip the prerequisite quest entirely.

Option B — Lullaby of Fireflies item

The Lullaby of Fireflies is a quest item obtained from the NPC Li Liuyun after completing a separate Wandering Tale called The River's Refrain. That quest also starts in the Heroic Tomb area — go south of the lake and lift the singing stone to get its initial clue. Once you have the Lullaby of Fireflies, return to the skeleton and hand it over.

💡
Either method advances the quest to the final step. If you already have the Glow of Fireflies Mystic Skill unlocked, Option A is faster since it doesn't require completing The River's Refrain first.

Rotating the skeleton with Meridian Touch

Step 1: Equip the Meridian Touch Mystic Skill from your skill menu.

Step 2: Activate Meridian Touch on the skeleton. You need to rotate it clockwise — this points it in the "direction of home." If the clockwise option doesn't appear, exit Meridian Touch mode, walk a short distance away from the skeleton, and try again.

Step 3: Once the rotation is complete, a brief cutscene triggers, and the quest ends.

Troubleshooting common issues

The most frequent problem players run into is the Meridian Touch clockwise prompt not appearing. Standing too close to the skeleton seems to cause this. Simply back away, re-enter Meridian Touch mode, and target the skeleton again from a slightly greater distance.

If you chose the Lullaby of Fireflies route and don't have the item yet, you'll need to complete The River's Refrain first. That quest chain begins at the singing stone south of the lake in Heroic Tomb, so both quests are conveniently located in the same area.

Bones' Lament is one of the quieter Wandering Tales in the Hexi expansion, but it rewards a decent chunk of Echo Jade and Exploration points for just a few minutes of work. Pair it with The River's Refrain while you're already in the Heroic Tomb area to knock out both efficiently.
