Where Winds Meet crouch controls on PC, Xbox/PC controller, and PS5

Crouching in Where Winds Meet is tied to different buttons depending on whether you use keyboard and mouse, an Xbox‑style controller on PC, or a DualSense on PS5. Crouch is also combined with other actions, so it can feel a little confusing at first.

Default crouch controls in Where Winds Meet

The table below shows the default crouch bindings on each platform.

Platform / Input Action name in game Default button Notes
PC – Keyboard & Mouse Crouch C Standalone crouch key; not shared with other basic actions.
PC – Xbox‑style Controller Environment Interaction / Crouch (Hold) Left Stick Button (L3) Press and hold the left stick to crouch; tap/hold also handles environment interaction.
PS5 – DualSense Interact / Crouch (Hold) Left Stick Button (L3) Press and hold the left stick to crouch; the same button is used to interact.

On keyboard, you get a dedicated crouch key, while on controller, crouch is on the left stick button and set to “hold” by default.

Crouching on PC (keyboard and mouse)

Step 1: Move your character as normal, using W, A, S, and D.

Step 2: Press C to crouch. Your character lowers their stance and moves more slowly, which is useful for sneaking and approaching animals or enemies quietly.

Step 3: Press C again to stand back up. Crouch on keyboard is a simple toggle: one press to crouch, another press to return to normal movement.

Crouching with a controller on PC (Xbox‑style)

Step 1: Move using the left stick as usual to approach the place where you want to sneak.

Step 2: Press and hold the left stick button (L3) to crouch. This is shown in the control list as Environment Interaction / Crouch (Hold).

Step 3: Keep L3 held down to stay crouched. Release the left stick button to return to a standing position and normal movement speed.

Step 4: Use gentle pressure on the left stick while holding L3 if you want very slow sneaking movement, for example, when taming a horse or avoiding detection.

Crouching on PS5 (DualSense)

Step 1: Use the left stick to move your character toward where you want to crouch.

Step 2: Press and hold the left stick button on the DualSense (L3) to crouch. The control scheme labels this as Interact / Crouch (Hold), because it also handles interaction prompts.

Step 3: Keep L3 held to remain crouched. Release L3 when you want to stand up again.

Step 4: If you see an interact prompt on screen, a short press of L3 will trigger interaction, while a longer hold will drop you into a crouch as long as the game allows crouching in that spot.

How crouch works (hold vs. toggle)

On the keyboard, crouch behaves like a toggle by default: one tap of C turns crouch on, and another turns it off.

On controller, crouch is a “hold” action: your character only stays low while you keep L3 pressed. This is why crouch on both Xbox‑style controllers and DualSense is labeled with “(Hold)” in the control lists.

Changing crouch keybinds and other controls

Change crouch on keyboard and mouse

Step 1: Press Esc to open the main menu.

Step 2: Select the settings menu option to open the configuration screen.

Step 3: Go to the keyboard and mouse button settings tab. This tab lists all actions and their current keys.

Step 4: Find the row labeled Crouch in the basic movement section. Click the key shown there to start rebinding.

Step 5: Press the new key you want to use for crouch (for example, Ctrl or Alt). Confirm the change when prompted so the new key is saved.

Change crouch on a controller

Step 1: Press Esc (PC) or the menu button (PS5) to open the main menu.

Step 2: Open the settings screen and move to the controller button settings tab. This section shows every controller action and its current button.

Step 3: Look for the entry named Environment Interaction / Crouch (Hold) on PC controller or Interact / Crouch (Hold) on PS5.

Step 4: Select that entry and press the controller button you want to assign. Confirm the rebinding when the game asks to save and apply the new control scheme.

Step 5: Test the new crouch binding in a safe area. Move around, crouch, and interact with objects to make sure crouch still feels comfortable and does not conflict with actions you use often.

Can you make crouch a click instead of a hold on L3?

The default controller layout uses “hold L3” for crouch, and the binding entry itself is defined as a hold‑type action. Players looking for an option to convert L3 crouch into a simple click rather than a hold have not reported a setting that flips this behavior directly.

Rebinding can move crouch to a different button, but that new binding will still act as a hold where the game expects it, especially when the action also covers interaction. If you want crouch to feel more comfortable on a controller, the most practical adjustment is usually to place it on a button that is easier for you to hold down during long sneaking sections.

Once you know where crouch is bound on your platform and how to tweak button settings, sneaking around Jianghu becomes much easier to control and far less confusing.
