Flute of the Tides is an Exploration quest in Where Winds Meet that unlocks the Flute of the Tides Mystic Skill.
Flute of the Tides trigger condition
The trigger is exact. Go to Peaceward Camp in Jade Gate Pass, Hexi, find Monk Unknowing on the raised wooden platform near the Peaceward Camp Boundary Stone, and play his flute score. The quest ping appears only after that performance is completed.
Talking to Monk Unknowing by itself is not enough. The unlock depends on playing the flute to his music score first.

Flute of the Tides completion sequence
Step 1: At Peaceward Camp, speak with Monk Unknowing and play Kalavinka on the flute. You do not need a perfect result in the rhythm mini-game for the quest to trigger.
Step 2: Speak to Monk Unknowing again about Flute of the Tides. He then asks you to calm the fallen Anxi soldiers in Whitecrown Fortress and Heroic Tomb.
Step 3: Travel to Whitecrown Fortress, southeast of Peaceward Camp. Follow the quest marker to the small white beam on the ground and play the shorter flute performance there.
Step 4: Go to Heroic Tomb in the Ayisu sub-region, near the lake leading to the tombs. Play the flute again at the marked spot.
Step 5: Return to Monk Unknowing in Peaceward Camp and speak with him to finish the quest.
How to know the unlock worked
The first confirmation is the quest ping that appears after you perform Kalavinka for Monk Unknowing. The final confirmation is the quest completion when you return to him after both field performances, followed by the Flute of the Tides Mystic Skill reward.
What prevents Flute of the Tides from triggering
The common failure point is trying to start the quest without playing the score for Monk Unknowing. The trigger does not fire until that performance is done.
If you are already on the quest, the next two required actions are fixed. You must play the flute at Whitecrown Fortress and at Heroic Tomb before the return trip to Peaceward Camp will complete the chain.
Flute of the Tides reward
Completing the quest grants the Flute of the Tides Mystic Skill. Its effect is a broad damage burst followed by a flute attack that continues striking nearby enemies.
If your goal is only to unlock the Mystic Skill, the shortest path is simple: trigger Monk Unknowing with Kalavinka, complete the two marked flute performances, then return to Peaceward Camp for the reward.
