Unfated Tian is the wandering doctor who pulls you into one of the most atmospheric early quests in Where Winds Meet. That quest, Blind to the World, hides a powerful Mystic Skill behind a chain of puzzles under a lake in the Moonveil Mountain area.
Players often get stuck on two points: how to actually “inspect the well” at the lake, and how Blind to the World ties into the Blinding Mist skill. The path runs through Unfated Tian by the lakeside, a drained well, a blindfolded statue, and a final choice in front of the so‑called Lunar Goddess.
Where to find Unfated Tian and start Blind to the World
Blind to the World is a Side Story in the Qinghe region. It begins near a deep lake on the eastern side of Moonveil Mountain.
| Quest | Quest type | Starting NPC | Starting area |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blind to the World | Side Story (Qinghe) | Unfated Tian | Deep lake, east Moonveil Mountain |
Approach the lakeshore and talk to Unfated Tian. He explains he has been hired through the Evercare Clinic to go beneath the lake to find the “Lunar Goddess” and replace her eyes. That conversation hands you the initial objective to investigate the lake and its well.
How to inspect the well in the lake (Heaven Has No Pier chapter)
The game asks you to “inspect the well” but the opening is blocked by branches. The game does not spell out the interaction clearly, which is why many players stall here.
| Step | Action | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Equip your bow | Readies ranged attacks at the lakeside |
| 2 | Aim at the branches covering the well | Targets the obstruction |
| 3 | Shoot the branches | Branches burn away, well becomes interactable |
On mouse and keyboard, the typical flow is: select the bow, right‑click to aim, then left‑click to fire. Once the branches catch fire and disappear, you can finally interact with the well entrance and proceed.
Drain the lake and reach the blindfolded statue
After opening the way into the lake, the goal is to expose the hidden structures beneath the water.
| Objective | What you do | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Find the drainage | Dive into the lake and look for a stone plate with three chains | The stone plate marks the water control mechanism |
| Follow the chains | Swim along each chain to its end point | Each chain leads to a separate lever mechanism |
| Operate the levers | Interact with all three mechanisms | The lake water drains, exposing the basin and statue |
| Reach the statue | Drop down into the drained basin and approach the large blindfolded woman statue | Triggers the statue puzzle with Unfated Tian |
The drained basin reveals a giant statue of a blindfolded woman surrounded by smaller discs marked with cardinal directions. This statue represents Li Zhenzhen, the “Lunar Goddess” mentioned in Tian’s commission.
Blind girl statue puzzle solution (north–east–south–west)
Once you speak to Unfated Tian at the statue, circular plates around the base begin to glow. You are meant to step on them in the order hinted at by Tian’s riddle: north, east, south, west.
| Order | Direction | Plate position | Movement |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | North | Behind the statue (relative to your map) | Start by stepping on the plate directly at the back |
| 2 | East | To the statue’s left if you circle clockwise from behind | Move clockwise from north to the next glowing plate |
| 3 | South | In front of the statue | Continue circling clockwise to the frontal plate |
| 4 | West | To the statue’s right | Finish on the final plate to complete the sequence |
Use the minimap to orient yourself. The simplest approach is:
- Face the back of the statue and step on the plate directly “north” of it.
- Walk around the statue clockwise, stepping on each plate in turn until you have completed four activations.
If you step on a wrong plate, the door will not open, and you need to repeat the sequence. When the input is correct, a door to an underground sanctuary opens nearby, and Tian suggests playing music before entering to “announce” yourselves to the Lunar Goddess.
Navigate the traps, the broken bridge, and the blue flowers
The sanctuary entrance is less about fighting and more about surviving the environment. A few mechanics here tie thematically into what you later receive as a reward.
| Area | Hazard | Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Arrow‑trap corridor | Arrow traps triggered by ribbons | Burn the ribbons with fire arrows to disable the traps |
| Broken bridge cave | Collapsed main route straight ahead | Look along the cave wall edges for an alternate side path |
| Waterway tunnel | Risk of getting lost underwater | Swim through the linear channel toward the far side of the cave |
| Moonlit Flowers | Touching them makes your screen go completely blind temporarily | Avoid contact when possible; if blinded underwater, follow the highlighted water path upward |
The blue Moonlit Flowers are key to the story. Touching them in the cave or the waterway temporarily removes your sight but sharpens audio cues and highlights a path when you are submerged. Tian later explains that these flowers match descriptions of an extinct “Moonlit Flower” from ancient scrolls and that the Lunar Goddess cultivated them deliberately.
Stone gate bell puzzle solution
Past the broken bridge and waterway, you reach a large stone gate that does not open on a simple interaction. The unlocking mechanism sits on high ground opposite the gate.
| Step | What to interact with | What you must do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Pedestal on the overlooking ledge | Touch the pedestal to ring a set of bells above the gate |
| 2 | Bells and symbols | Watch and listen to the order in which the bells ring; symbols above them light up in that sequence |
| 3 | Symbols above the gate | Equip your bow and shoot the symbols in the same order the bells rang |
| 4 | Second round | Repeat the bell–symbol sequence a second time when the mechanism resets |
Successful completion of two rounds in the correct order unlocks the stone gate and allows you deeper into Li Zhenzhen’s domain.
Meet Li Zhenzhen and find what the Lunar Goddess wants
Beyond the stone gate lies a broad cavern with an underground lake and a central platform where Li Zhenzhen’s body rests. Unfated Tian confirms she has been dead for three years, and the corpses nearby show signs of being cut down by her signature ribbons and sword.
Tian realizes the letter summoning him was sent long after her death and that someone recently delivered a fresh pair of eyes, still properly preserved, to the stone table beside her. Even so, he refuses to perform the operation, saying she has no desire to see again and that what she cared about lay elsewhere.
Your task shifts from replacing her eyes to finding an item that represents her true wish.
| Objective | Location | Item | Role in the quest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Explore the lower quarters | Living space beneath the main chamber | Moonlit Flower | Quest item echoing the blindness motif; can be offered to Li Zhenzhen |
| Inspect tables and furniture | Same lower area, near the Moonlit Flower | Small Blade | Alternative quest item representing a harsher end |
Pick one of the two items and return to Li Zhenzhen’s body above:
- Moonlit Flower – Mirrors the status of being “blind to the world” yet keenly attuned to other senses. Many players choose this path, which fits Tian’s reflections on things that persist beyond death.
- Small Blade – Serves as a different sort of offering, less nurturing and more final.
Place your chosen item as an offering. A cutscene follows, closing out the story and resolving Unfated Tian’s contract in his own way. You can then exit the sanctuary by returning to the lower quarters and squeezing through a narrow gap in the wall.
How to unlock Blinding Mist and what it does
Completing Blind to the World rewards a unique Mystic Skill that directly reflects the quest’s themes of sight, sound, and disorientation: Blinding Mist.
| Skill | Type | Tag | Vitality cost (Tier 4) | Cooldown (Tier 4) | Core effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blinding Mist | Mystic Skill (Offensive / Support) | Assassination | 70 Vitality | 45 seconds | Releases poisonous mist that damages enemies, blinds them, and prevents them from fighting for 5 seconds; enables Touch of Death during this window; ineffective on mighty enemies |
To get Blinding Mist, you must:
- Speak to Unfated Tian by the Moonveil Mountain lake and fully complete Blind to the World.
- Finish the offering to Li Zhenzhen and watch the closing cutscene.
Once unlocked, Blinding Mist becomes a potent crowd‑control tool. It is particularly strong when paired with Touch of Death, since blinded enemies can be subdued quickly during the five‑second vulnerability window. It does not work on bosses and other “mighty” enemies, so it shines most in crowded encounters and ambush situations.
Blinding Mist upgrades and materials
Like other Tier 1 Mystic Arts, Blinding Mist can be ranked up and promoted through multiple tiers. Each promotion grants a specific bonus.
| Tier | Rank range | Bonus at Tier 0 | Required materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0–9 | Base skill (no extra bonus beyond default effect) | Lv. 1 Ebon Iron ×2 per rank |
| 2 | 0–9 | Mist duration +2 seconds | Tier promotion: Vicious Fruit ×5, Lv. 1 Ebon Iron ×2; ranks: Lv. 2 Ebon Iron ×4 per rank |
| 3 | 0–9 | Touch of Death damage +20% during Blinding Mist | Tier promotion: Vicious Fruit ×15, Lv. 2 Ebon Iron ×4; ranks: Lv. 3 Ebon Iron ×10 per rank |
| 4 | 0–9 | Vitality cost −10 (from 80 down to 70) | Tier promotion: Vicious Fruit ×18, Lv. 3 Ebon Iron ×10; ranks: Lv. 4 Ebon Iron ×20 per rank |
Blinding Mist starts as a Tier 1 Mystic Art and can be brought up to Rank 9 before its first promotion. Each promotion unlocks more ranks within the new tier and adds one of the bonuses from the table above. Ebon Iron in progressively higher levels handles the incremental rank‑ups, while Vicious Fruit anchors the tier promotions themselves.
The Vitality requirement is heavy early on, especially before unlocking the Tier 4 reduction, so it is best slotted into builds that already invest heavily in Vitality. With enough upgrades, however, Blinding Mist becomes a reliable opener for disabling large groups and setting up assassination‑style takedowns.
Blind to the World ties together Unfated Tian’s quiet professionalism, Li Zhenzhen’s legacy beneath the lake, and the mechanics of blindness into one compact story. Meeting Tian at the Moonveil Mountain lake, solving the well and statue puzzles, and choosing an offering for the Lunar Goddess not only closes a three‑year‑old chapter in the game’s fiction but also earns a Mystic Skill that lets you turn that same blindness into a weapon.
