Apple's AirTags have become a staple for many people's suitcases. Being able to track your luggage's location in case it doesn't make it on the same airplane as you has been a huge help for travelers around the globe. With iOS 18.2, Apple is adding another helpful feature to this tool.

iOS 18.2, currently in developer beta, has a new feature that allows you to share the location of a lost AirTag with an airline or another trusted person temporarily. The stable version of iOS 18.2 is expected to be released in December. There are two new options under this umbrella – Share Item Location and Show Contact Info.

With Share Item Location, you'll be able to create a shareable link for the location of the missing or lost item that others will be able to view.

Currently, you can only share your AirTag's location with people from your contact list. And it isn't meant to let someone help you find it; it's more of an exercise when you want to share the item with someone else, like a family member or friend.

However, the new Find My links will be temporary and will expire after one week or after the item is returned to you.

Anyone, even non-Apple users, will be able to open the link on their device and view the item on a map to be able to help you track it. You can also view how many people have opened the link from your Find My app.

If someone finds the lost item, the new 'Show Contact Info' option allows anyone to connect to the item which will open a website with more information about the tag, including the phone number and email address of the owner (if you've added it).

The features will work with Apple's AirTag as well as other devices that use Apple's Find My network.

Both new options will, in theory, make it easier for you to recover your lost item. While it's undoubtedly a good addition on Apple's part, many users online have expressed indifference to the feature as they say it assumes the airline will care enough to help you out, which has been the opposite of most people's experience.
