Demonology Ravager and Vesper Ghosts: Evidence, Identification, and Counters

The exact evidence to catch each ghost and the precise way to survive their hunts.

The exact evidence to catch each ghost and the precise way to survive their hunts.

The Ravager and the Vesper are two of the toughest ghost types to face in Demonology, and they punish the standard survival habits that work on most spirits. The Ravager weaponizes the room around you, while the Vesper ignores sight entirely and hunts purely by sound. Knowing the evidence each one leaves, and the one correct way to survive its hunt, is the difference between finishing a job and losing it.

Quick answer: Identify the Ravager with Inscription, Spirit Box, and EMF level 5, then hide in a closet or kite it around a large object. Identify the Vesper with Inscription, Prints, and Wither, then stand completely still during a hunt because it cannot use a closet.

Ravager and Vesper evidence comparison

GhostEvidenceTell
RavagerInscription, Spirit Box, EMF level 5Throws multiple items, can spawn a tornado during hunts
VesperInscription, Prints, WitherTracks you by sound through walls, ignores sight

Note: Inscription was previously called Ghost Writing, so older players may still refer to it by that name. Both ghosts share this clue, so the deciding evidence is Spirit Box and EMF level 5 for the Ravager versus Prints and Wither for the Vesper.

Ravager: how to identify the ghost

Ravager Ghost Demonology

The Ravager announces itself through destruction. It grabs objects from the environment and hurls them, and a single thrown item can knock down nearby objects too. The clearest sign is the tornado. When a hunt begins, there is a 1 in 3 chance the Ravager pulls nearby objects into a swirling vortex around itself. That vortex does not damage you directly, so it is safe to watch as a confirmation rather than a threat.

Every Ravager ability leaves EMF level 5, no matter what it does. This is a reliable shortcut. On a Custom Difficulty run set to produce zero evidence, an EMF Reader that still shows Level 5 points to a Ravager. Outside that, you confirm it with two more clues, the Inscription and the Spirit Box.

Collecting Ravager evidence

Get the Spirit Book and Spirit Box from the lobby store or the pinboard once a job starts. You need both for the Inscription and Spirit Box clues.
Find the ghost’s favorite room, which is the coldest room on the map. Use the thermometer to confirm the temperature, then leave the Spirit Book inside it. The Ravager will eventually write in it, giving you the Inscription.
Stand in a room where the ghost is present with the lights off, then ask it a question through the Spirit Box. If it does not answer, keep asking until it does. Stay alert, because being this close makes you vulnerable if a hunt starts.

How to counter the Ravager

Standard ghost survival works here. When a hunt begins, step into the nearest closet and you are untouchable, and you do not even need to shut the doors. Kiting the Ravager in circles around a large object is also reliable.

Tip: A tornado can fling furniture into your path and block an escape route. Plan your routes in advance and keep your distance from the ghost while the vortex is active.

Vesper: how to identify the ghost

Vesper Ghost in Demonology

The Vesper hunts by sound, not sight. Running away does not save you because it hears your movement and can track you through walls. If a ghost is following you despite no line of sight, that behavior alone strongly suggests a Vesper. You confirm it with three clues, Inscription, Prints, and Wither.

Collecting Vesper evidence

Get the Inscription the same way as the Ravager. Place the Spirit Book in the coldest room and wait for the ghost to write in it.
Take a Blacklight from the pinboard or the lobby store and sweep it across objects in the house. Once a print shows up under the light, the Prints clue is yours.
Place the Flower Pot inside the house for the Wither clue. If the flowers darken, shrivel, and decay, a Vesper is active, but the clue only registers once the decay finishes. The timing is random, from seconds to a couple of minutes, so set the pot down and run other tasks while it withers passively.

How to counter the Vesper

The Vesper is the first ghost in Demonology that you cannot escape by hiding in a closet. Entering one only gives away your position and sends it straight to you. The correct counter is to stand perfectly still during a hunt. Because the ghost is blind and relies only on audio, it will pass right next to you as if you are not there.

Moving, crouching, and interacting with items all make noise, so avoid all of them while it is hunting. If you must move, fall back on kiting it in circles around a large object, such as the kitchen counter on the Fenway map.

Note: A known bug means that if you are already inside a closet when a hunt starts and then make noise, the Vesper cannot reach you and starts spazzing out. The developers are aware of it and a fix is expected.

Once you log the right three clues in the Journal, the ghost is confirmed and you can complete your objectives with confidence. The simplest way to remember the split is by behavior, the Ravager throws and spins your surroundings while the Vesper stalks you silently by ear. You can put both methods into practice directly in Demonology on Roblox.
