Alec's Request is an early faction quest in Crimson Desert that asks you to bring a Leopard Perch to Alec at the Greymane camp. The quest is straightforward, but many players struggle with the fishing mechanic or assume they need a fishing pole. You can skip the pole entirely and catch the fish by hand in shallow water.
Quick answer: Jump into any shallow body of water near the Greymane camp, swim up to a Leopard Perch, and press the interact button to grab it. Return to Alec to complete the quest and receive a Medium Bag.

Starting Alec's Request
The quest begins when you speak to Alec at the Greymane camp. He explains that he refused to let Ronnie use the forge to grill fish and now regrets his decision. To make amends, Alec asks you to bring him a fresh Leopard Perch so he can grill it as an apology.
After accepting the quest, your objective updates to "Acquire a leopard perch (0/1)". The quest marker points toward a nearby body of water where Leopard Perch spawn.

Catching Leopard Perch Without a Fishing Pole
Step 1: Open your map and locate the nearest body of water. The quest marker typically directs you to a small lake or river close to the Greymane camp.
Step 2: Travel to the water's edge and jump in. You do not need to equip a fishing pole or any special gear, but you can if you want to.

Step 3: Swim toward any fish you see moving in the water. Leopard Perch are common in shallow areas and appear as small, fast-moving shapes.
Step 4: When you are close enough to a fish, an interact prompt appears on screen. Press the button to grab the fish by hand. The UI displays "Leopard Perch acquired" when you succeed.

You may catch other fish species, such as Burbot or Ricefish, while swimming. These do not count toward the quest objective, but they can be kept for cooking or selling. Keep swimming and grabbing fish until you obtain a Leopard Perch.
Watch your stamina bar while swimming. If you run out of stamina, you will drown and respawn at the water's edge. Surface periodically to recover stamina, or swim in shallower sections where you can stand.
Returning to Alec
Step 1: Once you have the Leopard Perch, open your quest log to confirm the objective has updated to "Hand over the leopard perch".
Step 2: Return to the Greymane camp and approach Alec. He is standing under a tent near the center of the camp.
Step 3: Interact with Alec to trigger a dialogue. He thanks you for the fish and promises to be more open-minded in the future.

The quest completes immediately after the dialogue. You receive a Medium Bag (which expands your inventory by three slots), 50 Trust with Alec, and 50 Greymane Contribution points. The UI displays "Quest Completed: Alec's Request" and shows the rewards on screen.
Why Hand-Catching Works Better Than Fishing
Crimson Desert includes a traditional fishing mechanic that requires a fishing pole, bait, and precise timing to reel in fish. Many players attempt to use this system for Alec's Request and find it frustrating or time-consuming.
Hand-catching fish in shallow water is faster and does not require any equipment. You can grab multiple fish in quick succession without waiting for bites or managing line tension. This method works for most common fish species, including Leopard Perch, Burbot, and Ricefish.
The fishing pole is still useful for catching larger or rarer fish in deeper water, but it is not necessary for this quest.

Common Issues and Solutions
If you cannot find Leopard Perch in the first body of water you visit, try a different location. Leopard Perch spawn in most rivers and lakes near the Greymane camp, but their appearance is randomized. Swim to another nearby water source and repeat the hand-catching process.
If the interact prompt does not appear when you swim near a fish, you may be too far away or moving too quickly. Slow down and position yourself directly in front of the fish. The prompt appears only when you are within arm's reach.
If you accidentally catch the wrong fish species, do not worry. You can carry multiple fish in your inventory and continue swimming until you find a Leopard Perch. Other fish can be cooked or sold later.
Alec's Request is one of the simplest faction quests in Crimson Desert and serves as an introduction to the game's fishing and swimming mechanics. Completing it unlocks inventory space and builds trust with the Greymane camp, which is useful for accessing later faction quests and rewards.
