The Bettina spent most of its life as the heavy rifle nobody trusted. After patch 1.26.0 landed with the Riven Tides update on April 28, 2026, it became the heavy rifle worth a second look — but only against the right targets. The buff pushed base damage from 14 to 16, slowed fire rate from 285 to 235 RPM, tightened dispersion by 40%, improved recoil recovery by 30%, and increased damage to ARC armor by 33%. Heavy ammo stack size also went from 40 to 60.

What the buff actually changed
The headline number is the 33% increase to ARC armor damage. That is the change that decides every matchup below. Per-shot damage went up by roughly 14%, but the fire rate cut means raw DPS against unarmored targets is slightly lower than before. The weapon traded sustained spray for harder, more deliberate hits — and against armor plates, those harder hits compound.
Recoil recovery and dispersion improvements matter more than they sound. The pre-buff Bettina punished sustained fire with bloom; the current version holds a tighter cone, which is what makes mid-range armor stripping viable instead of theoretical.
| Stat | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Base damage | 14 | 16 |
| Fire rate (RPM) | 285 | 235 |
| Dispersion | Baseline | −40% |
| Recoil recovery | Baseline | +30% |
| ARC armor damage | Baseline | +33% |
| Heavy ammo stack | 40 | 60 |

Bettina vs every ARC: the matchup table
Performance depends almost entirely on whether the target has armor plating. The bigger and more armored the ARC, the more value the Bettina extracts from each heavy round. Against small flyers, the gun works, but the ammo trade is rough — particularly solo.
| ARC enemy | Bettina rating | How it performs |
|---|---|---|
| Rocketeer | Excellent | Sustained fire staggers and slows it; start shooting early to keep it from closing. |
| Shredder | Excellent | Strong damage per magazine; aim center mass and finish before reloading. |
| Bombardier | Excellent | Focus one armor plate, break it fast, then dump damage into the exposed core. |
| Vaporizer | Good | Works well, but positioning matters more than damage. Stay near cover. |
| ARC Turbine | Situational | New UFO-style flyer added in Riven Tides; usable, but other heavy options may be cleaner. |
| Firefly | Good but costly | Kills fast, but heavy ammo drains quickly across multiple spawns. |
| Hornet | Okay | Short bursts at wings or rear weak spots; full body shots waste a magazine. |
| Wasp | Okay | Still ammo-inefficient. Pre-buff it took around 7 body shots; the buff helps but not dramatically. |
| Tick | Niche | Better than an Anvil for sustained Tick clearing because of reduced reload pressure. |
Where the buff actually shines: heavy ARC
Rocketeers are the cleanest example. Pre-buff, the Bettina could not generate enough pressure to interrupt a Rocketeer's approach reliably. With the tighter dispersion and improved armor damage, opening fire at range now forces the Rocketeer to absorb meaningful damage before it closes. The kill is still not instant, but the fight stays in your control instead of devolving into a panic dodge.
Shredders see the biggest practical improvement per magazine. The 22-round mag is enough to take one down at mid-range if your shots stay on the body, and the improved recoil recovery means a missed shot does not snowball into a full miss streak.
Bombardiers reward the buff most visibly. Their armor plates come off faster, and once a plate breaks, the Bettina's per-shot damage is high enough that the exposed core melts. The key is focus — spreading fire across multiple plates wastes the weapon's biggest advantage.

Where the buff doesn't fix the problem: small flyers
Wasps, Hornets, and Fireflies are still ammo-inefficient targets. The Bettina kills them, but heavy ammo is harder to find and harder to carry than light or medium. A Wasp that took roughly 7 body shots before the buff now takes fewer, but the ammo math against a Rattler or a medium rifle still favors lighter weapons for trash clearing.
The one exception is sustained trash waves where reloading costs more than ammo — the Tick-heavy trial scenario, for example. The Bettina's 22-round magazine outlasts an Anvil for that kind of fight, which is a narrow but real use case.
The PvP catch
Against light shields, time-to-kill went from approximately 1.68 seconds to 1.79 seconds. That is a stealth nerf for anyone who used Bettina primarily in ranked firefights. The weapon is now clearly a PvE-first tool with PvP secondary use, not the other way around. If your route is mostly Close Scrutiny duels, a medium-ammo rifle is a better pick.

Recommended build for ARC fights
Build for control, not fire rate. The weapon already shoots fast enough, and stability is what converts the buff into actual kills.
| Slot | Choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Tier | Bettina IV | Faster reloads and better durability for long ARC runs. |
| Muzzle | Compensator 2 or 3 | Holds the tighter post-buff cone during sustained fire. |
| Converter | Skip Kinetic Converter | Saves heavy ammo and keeps recoil manageable past close range. |
| Grip | Horizontal grip | Reduces side-to-side recoil for armor stripping. |
| Stock | Stable stock | Steadier aim between bursts. |
| Ammo plan | Heavy ammo, full stack | Bring more than feels reasonable — the new 60-round stack helps. |
Ammo economy is still the limiter
Durability is no longer the main concern. In practical raid use, the Bettina hits an ammo wall before a durability wall, especially at tier IV where upgrade restoration adds 25% max durability per upgrade. That means the limiting factor is how much heavy ammo you can carry and find mid-raid, not whether the gun survives the run.
In a squad, the cleanest split is one Bettina user dedicated to armor breaking while teammates handle small ARC and PvP threats with cheaper ammo. Solo players should treat the Bettina as a tool reserved for confirmed heavy ARC fights rather than a general-purpose primary.

When to bring it, when to leave it
| Bring it when | Skip it when |
|---|---|
| Route includes Rocketeers, Shredders, or Bombardiers | You're low on heavy ammo |
| Squad needs a dedicated anti-armor role | Run is mainly small ARC clearing |
| You're hunting the ARC Turbine in Riven Tides | Your priority is ranked PvP duels |
| You expect long ARC-heavy fights and want fewer reloads | You need long-range precision over volume |
The post-buff Bettina is not the universal upgrade some patch note skim-readers expected. It is a more honest weapon than before — clearly best at one job, clearly mediocre at others. Against heavy armored ARC, especially in Riven Tides runs where the Turbine and other large units appear, it earns its slot. Against small flyers or other raiders, the older arguments against it still mostly hold.
