Crimson Desert Unfamiliar Lands Quest — Every Objective Solved

Unfamiliar Lands is the opening main quest in Crimson Desert, kicking off the Prologue: Dead of Night chapter under the Ambush sub-chapter. You play as Kliff, leader of the Greymane mercenaries, and the setup is bleak — the Black Bears have tracked the scent of blood to your cabin, and the Greymanes can't catch a break. There are no prerequisites and no rewards for finishing this quest; it exists purely to introduce you to basic movement, NPC interaction, and the minimap system.

Quick answer: Walk downhill to the cabin, speak with Oongka (optional), speak with Marius, speak with Ross, then enter the cabin through the front door.

Head to the cabin

Step 1: Once the opening cutscene ends and you gain control of Kliff, walk straight down the hill. A cabin sits to the left at the bottom of the slope. Simply approach it to trigger the next objective marker.

Speak with Oongka (optional)

Step 1: As you get close to the cabin, the game surfaces an optional objective to talk to Oongka. He's standing outside the cabin, easy to spot. Target him with the left trigger (L2 on PlayStation, LT on Xbox) and then press the interact button (X on PlayStation, A on Xbox) to start the conversation.

Oongka's dialogue is entirely optional. Skipping it won't lock you out of anything, but it adds a bit of early character context for the Greymanes.

Speak with Marius

Step 1: After the brief scene that plays when you approach the cabin, you'll regain control. Open your minimap and look for the red X marker — that's Marius. Walk over to him and interact using the same target-and-talk inputs.

Speak with Ross

Step 1: Once the dialogue with Marius wraps up, a new red X appears on the minimap pointing you toward Ross. He's leaning against a tree nearby. Approach and speak with him the same way you did with Marius.

Enter the cabin

Step 1: With all conversations finished, head to the cabin's front door and walk into it. No button prompt is needed — just move toward the door and Kliff enters automatically. A cutscene plays, and the quest completes.

You'll know Unfamiliar Lands is done when the quest tracker clears and the next mission, In Ashes, begins. In Ashes introduces the first boss fight against Myurdin, so the difficulty ramps up immediately.

Where Unfamiliar Lands fits in the Prologue

The Prologue: Dead of Night chapter contains two sub-chapters. Unfamiliar Lands and In Ashes fall under the Ambush sub-chapter, while Realm of Uncertainty and New Journey make up the Unknown Space sub-chapter. Completing all four quests finishes the Prologue entirely and moves you into the first full chapter, The First Encounter, which opens with the Trials of Kindness quest group.


Unfamiliar Lands is deliberately simple — Pearl Abyss uses it as a controlled tutorial moment before the game opens up into Pywel's massive open world. Take the extra few seconds to talk to Oongka, get comfortable with the targeting and dialogue controls, and brace yourself for the considerably tougher In Ashes fight that follows immediately after.
