Nobody likes to call anyone anymore until absolutely necessary. It’s the era of texting. And let’s be honest. It has made our lives easier. But there are some people that make you appreciate the saying, “Silence is golden.” Maybe they are spamming you, or maybe there’s another reason you want to block them. Thankfully on your iPhone, it is very easy to block a number and “silence” them for good.
The easiest and quickest way to block a number is through the Messages app itself. Open the Messages app from the home screen of your iPhone, and select the message thread of the number you want to block.
After opening the conversation, tap on the contact information displayed at the top of the screen. It will expand. Then tap on the information (i) icon. In some older versions of iOS, the information icon will simply be at the top-right edge of the screen.
The new set of options will show the contact of the person along with audio and video call icons. Tap on it.
Scroll to the very bottom of the screen and tap Block this Caller.
It will show a prompt asking for your confirmation, that all calls, messages, or FaceTime from the caller will be blocked. Tap on Block Contact and the number will be blocked and you will receive no future correspondence from that number.
If blocking all conversation from a contact is not what you wanted, unfortunately as of yet, there is no option on iPhone to block just text messages or iMessages from someone.
But there is another trick you can use. You can put the contact on Do not disturb by hiding alerts for their Messages. You will still receive messages from a number this way, but they won’t disturb you. And you can still receive calls from them.
To hide alerts from a contact, open the Messages app and scroll to the conversation from the person you wish to mute. Place your finger at the right edge of the thread, and swipe left. Then tap Hide Alerts option.
A little moon icon will be displayed at the left edge of the conversation. Now, you won’t receive notifications for any messages this contact sends. The only way you will know about the messages is if you open the messages app and find the conversation thread.
🍻 Cheers!
