How to Catch the Dreadfin in Fisch — Spawn Times, Bait, and Best Rods

The Dreadfin is the newest Apex-type fish in Fisch on Roblox, introduced as part of the Dreadfin Update that went live in March 2026. Like other Apex Hunts — Scylla, Megalodon, Pliosaur, Whale Shark — the Dreadfin appears through a global Hunt event with a hard population cap. Once all 2,000 Dreadfin are caught across every server, the event ends, and you'll have to wait for the next one.

Quick answer: Equip Shark Head bait, fish at night during foggy weather at the pool marked in the global Events notification, and use a high-Luck, high-Resilience rod like No Life or Seraphic with a Divine or Sea Overlord enchantment.

Dreadfin Apex Hunt spawn timing

There is no fixed countdown timer for the Dreadfin Hunt. The event spawns randomly, roughly every three hours or so, and a notification appears in the global Events channel. You should check that channel every five minutes or so to avoid missing it. When a hunt begins, you'll see a message along the lines of "A Dreadfin has been spotted near Northern Expedition" — with the location name swapped depending on where it actually spawned.

If you want to speed things along, you can use a Sundial Totem to accelerate the celestial cycle on your server. Faster day-night transitions mean more rolls for a Dreadfin spawn to trigger.

Where the Dreadfin spawns

The Dreadfin can appear anywhere on the map, but the most frequently reported locations are Northern Expedition, Scoria Reach, and Grand Reef. The exact spot is always called out in the event notification, so read it carefully before sailing off.

⚠️
A common mistake: players who see "Northern Expedition" in the notification often enter the portal to Northern Summit. The Dreadfin pool is actually located near the portal itself, in the main ocean area — not inside the summit zone.

Once you arrive at the correct location, look for a small pool with a black Dreadfin visibly swimming around inside it. That's your fishing spot.

Bait, weather, and time requirements

RequirementDetail
BaitShark Head
Time of dayNight
WeatherFoggy
SeasonNone (any season works)

Shark Head bait is the only required bait. Without it, your odds of hooking the Dreadfin drop significantly. Night and foggy weather are the other two conditions that boost your catch chance. If the weather or time isn't cooperating, the Sundial Totem trick mentioned above can help cycle through to nighttime faster, though weather is harder to control.

Best rods and enchantments for the Dreadfin

You want a rod with strong Luck and Resilience stats. The fight itself isn't brutally difficult compared to some other Apex fish — the real challenge is the population cap running out before you get your catch. High Luck increases your chance of actually hooking the Dreadfin from the pool, while Resilience helps you survive the reeling process.

Recommended RodWhy It Works
No LifeStrong Luck and Resilience baseline; widely accessible endgame rod
SeraphicHigh overall stats across Luck and Resilience
Rod of GlorpSolid Luck stat for improving hook rates
ElementalVersatile stat spread with good Resilience

For enchantments, Divine and Sea Overlord are the strongest picks. Both provide meaningful stat boosts that complement the Luck-and-Resilience strategy you need for Apex catches.

How the global population cap works

Each Dreadfin Hunt spawns exactly 2,000 fish distributed across all active servers globally. Every time any player on any server catches one, that global counter ticks down by one. When the count hits zero, a second event message fires — "The Dreadfin population has been wiped out" — and the hunt is over for everyone. No more Dreadfin can be caught until the next hunt event triggers.

This means speed matters. The moment you see the event notification, get to the location immediately, equip your Shark Head bait, and start casting. Waiting even a few minutes can mean the population is already depleted, especially during peak player hours.

Other changes in the Dreadfin Update

The Dreadfin wasn't the only thing added in this patch. Several other adjustments shipped alongside it that affect how you might approach the hunt and the broader game.

ChangeWhat It Does
Invincible moved to secondary slotYou can now pair Invincible with another primary enchantment, opening up stronger rod builds
Masterline Mastery addedNew mastery tier for the Masterline rod; cycles through random rod passives every five minutes
Duskwire rebalanceControl enchants like Herculean now increase progress speed on the Duskwire instead of expanding the control bar
Try Hard rod rebalanceQuest requirement changed from Invincible to Hasty; enchantment now grants +50,000 kg; rod uses forced progress speed
Bloop Hunt reworkBaby Bloops now spawn first; catching them gives a chance to spawn the main Bloop. Multihooking Bloop Hunts is no longer possible
Tradeable items expandedLanterns, halos, gliders, and boos can now be traded and sold
Duskwire and Sprint Binder masteriesBoth made easier to complete

The Invincible enchantment change is particularly relevant for Dreadfin hunting. Since it now occupies the secondary slot, you can run it alongside a primary enchantment like Divine or Sea Overlord — giving you both survivability and catch-rate boosts on the same rod.

The Dreadfin Hunt is straightforward in terms of mechanics — equip the right bait, fish at the right time and weather, and use a strong rod. The real pressure comes from the 2,000-fish global cap, which can drain fast during busy periods. Stay alert for event notifications, keep Shark Head bait in your inventory at all times, and have your best Luck/Resilience rod ready to go so you can cast the moment you reach the pool.
