While Microsoft's Copilot has been available for some time now, the company is now integrating this AI model with its other offerings, including its Windows OS and Edge browser. This means you can use Copilot directly from such applications and systems to perform various tasks, such as generating text content, creating images, planning vacations, and more.
However, there are times when Copilot's suggestions might be a bit distracting, or you want to create content without relying on the AI chatbot. In such cases, you can turn Copilot off, and we'll be sharing how you can do so effortlessly.
Disabling Copilot in Microsoft Edge
Copilot is available on both desktop and mobile versions of the Edge browser, and you can turn it off on all platforms. For that, you need to go into the browser settings.
On Desktop
- Open the Edge browser and click on the 'three dots' in the top right corner.
- Click on the 'Settings' option from the menu that drops down.
- Once the Settings page opens, click on the 'Sidebar' option from the options on the left.
- In the Sidebar, you will see Copilot within the 'App Specific Settings' section. Click on it to access related settings.
- To disable Copilot, click on the 'Show Copilot' toggle to turn it off. You can also turn off the other options, so Copilot will not open automatically or show notifications.
- Once you turn off Copilot, restart the browser by clicking the 'Restart' button. When Edge relaunches, you will no longer see the Copilot icon.
On Mobile
These are the steps you need to follow to disable Copilot on the Edge app on your mobile phone. The steps are the same for both Android and iOS.
- Launch the browser and tap the hamburger menu icon at the bottom right.
- From the pop-up that appears, tap the 'Settings' icon.
- On the 'Settings' page, go to the 'General' option, which contains Copilot-related settings.
- Tap the 'Copilot' option at the top to adjust the Copilot settings.
- To disable Copilot, turn off all the options inside the Copilot page, such as 'Show Copilot', 'Text Selection', and 'Enable Copilot In Voice Search' by clicking on the respective buttons.
Now, you have successfully disabled Copilot in the Edge app on your phone. Relaunch the browse to start using it without Copilot.
Whether you're using Edge on desktop or mobile, the methods we've discussed here will let you disable Copilot without effort. By turning Copilot off, you can not only prevent it from offering suggestions but also avoid unwanted notifications while working. And you can easily turn it back on later on whenever you want by going back to the settings.
