How to evolve Weepinbell in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Weepinbell is one of the simplest special evolutions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A: it evolves into Victreebel when exposed to a Leaf Stone. There is no level, time-of-day, or friendship requirement layered on top of that.

Stage Method Result
Bellsprout Level 21 Weepinbell
Weepinbell Use a Leaf Stone Victreebel

Once you have a Weepinbell in your party or pastures, the only requirement to evolve is a Leaf Stone. Using the stone on Weepinbell opens the evolution animation immediately; there is no need to gain a level first.

How to get a Leaf Stone in Legends: Z-A

Leaf Stones can appear as items on the ground while exploring, but the most reliable source is the Stone Emporium in Lumiose City. There, Leaf Stones are sold for 3,000 Pokédollars.

Source Details Cost
Stone Emporium shop Buy Leaf Stone from the evolution stone vendor ₽3,000
Field pickups Occasional overworld item finds in the city’s wild zones Free

3,000 Pokédollars is relatively cheap for an evolution stone in the early game, which makes an early Victreebel very achievable once you reach the shop.

Evolving Weepinbell into Victreebel

Once you have the stone, the process is handled entirely from your bag.

Step Action
1 Open your satchel from the main game screen.
2 Navigate to the item pocket that holds “Other Items” or evolution stones.
3 Scroll down until you highlight a Leaf Stone.
4 Select the Leaf Stone and choose the option to “Use” it.
5 On the Pokémon selection screen, move the cursor to Weepinbell and confirm.
6 Watch the evolution animation as Weepinbell becomes Victreebel.

If Weepinbell is eligible, it will be clearly selectable when you use the Leaf Stone. If it is greyed out or cannot be chosen, use the checklist below.

Troubleshooting: Why Weepinbell is not evolving

If the Leaf Stone does nothing or Weepinbell cannot be selected, the problem is usually one of the following:

Issue What to check
Wrong Pokémon Confirm the target is actually Weepinbell, not Bellsprout or Victreebel.
Wrong item Make sure you are using a Leaf Stone, not a different evolution stone.
Storage location Ensure Weepinbell is in your current team or in a box that is accessible from the evolution screen.

There are no hidden conditions like time of day, weather, or friendship tied to this evolution in Legends: Z-A, so resolving one of the simple issues above is usually enough.

When to evolve Weepinbell in Legends: Z-A

Earlier games often encouraged holding off on stone evolutions because the evolved forms stopped learning moves by level-up. In more recent generations, including Legends: Z-A, that restriction is relaxed: evolved forms have proper level-up movepools, and any missed moves can be relearned.

The result is that there is no strong mechanical reason to delay evolving Weepinbell once you have a Leaf Stone, unless you personally prefer using Weepinbell instead of Victreebel. If you want a strong Grass/Poison attacker as soon as possible, evolving immediately is the straightforward choice.

Weepinbell’s learnset in Legends: Z-A

Weepinbell’s level-up moves in Legends: Z-A are focused on status powders, Grass damage, and Poison coverage. Knowing the spread of important moves helps if you are trying to decide whether to grab a specific move before committing to Victreebel.

Level Move Type Category
1 Growth Normal Status
1 Vine Whip Grass Physical
8 Infestation Bug Special
10 Razor Leaf Grass Physical
13 Sleep Powder Grass Status
15 Poison Powder Poison Status
17 Stun Spore Grass Status
19 Knock Off Dark Physical
23 Magical Leaf Grass Special
26 Toxic Spikes Poison Status
30 Poison Jab Poison Physical
33 Leech Life Bug Physical
40 Sludge Wave Poison Special
44 Power Whip Grass Physical
48 Leaf Storm Grass Special

Many of these moves can also be accessed through remembrance systems even after evolving, so evolving once you have a Leaf Stone rarely locks you out of anything long-term.

Why an early Victreebel is strong in Legends: Z-A

In Legends: Z-A, it is possible to catch a fairly high-level Bellsprout in early wild zones. That makes a quick route to a fully evolved Victreebel:

  • Catch a higher-level Bellsprout.
  • Let it evolve once into Weepinbell.
  • Buy a Leaf Stone for 3,000 Pokédollars from the Stone Emporium.
  • Use the Leaf Stone on Weepinbell immediately.

This shortcut delivers a fully evolved Grass/Poison-type with access to moves like Sleep Powder, Razor Leaf, and strong Poison attacks much earlier than in traditional level-based evolution games. For early-game teams that need reliable Grass coverage and status support, it is an efficient upgrade path with almost no downside.

Once a Leaf Stone is in hand, turning Weepinbell into Victreebel in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is quick, cheap, and flexible. Evolve as soon as you want the extra stats and power; the modern move-learning systems mean you are not punished for going early.
