With iOS 18, Apple introduced a new customizable Control Center with resizable controls and multiple pages. However, the new Connectivity control has created a lot of dissatisfied users.
The new Connectivity control widget in the Control Center can either be a 2x2 square or a full-screen widget that needs a separate page. However, in the 2x2 widget that most people prefer, the controls are all jumbled up. Now, the AirDrop icon appears in the widget, which most users don't find too useful. Unfortunately, the Connectivity widget is not customizable. But you can use a little workaround as shared by this Redditor to get your desired icons on the Control Center.
You can place all your connectivity icons in the Control Center directly with this method. For Airplane Mode, Cellular Data, and Bluetooth, it's an easy enough task since standalone controls already exist for them. However, for Wi-Fi, you'll need to use a Shortcut. Here's how.
- First, add the shortcut for Wi-Fi to your Shortcuts app. You can either create it yourself or add it from here. It's a simple shortcut that toggles Wi-Fi on and off. Simply, open the link on your iPhone.
- It will be redirected to the Shortcuts app. Tap on 'Add Shortcut' to add it.
- Now, open the Control Center on your iPhone by swiping down from the top-right corner.
- Tap and hold the empty space or tap the '+' icon in the top-left to enter customization mode.
- Tap on the 'Add a Control' button at the bottom.
- Now, to add the existing controls, search for 'Connectivity'. You'll find all the controls there. Add the ones you want one by one.
- Next, to add 'Wi-Fi', search 'Shortcuts' using the search option. Select 'Shortcut' from the options.
- Tap on 'Choose' from the menu.
- Then, select 'Wi-Fi' from your list of shortcuts.
- Close the shortcut selection menu and resize the Wi-Fi control to a small icon using the handle in the bottom right corner.
- Now, you have 4 different small icons for Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Cellular. Arrange them however you like on your screen, whether in a straight line or in a square formation to evince the Connectivity widget.
Things to Know:
- While the rest of the controls will work as they usually do from the Connectivity widget, you'll have to sacrifice some functionality for the Wi-Fi option when using it as a shortcut.
- The Wi-Fi icon won't be colored to indicate the Wi-Fi On status. Furthermore, you cannot long press this icon to change Wi-Fi networks.
- Hopefully, Apple will add a native Wi-Fi icon in future updates or add the ability to reorder the icons in the Connectivity widget.
