Widevine Content Decryption Module (CDM) enables browsers to play DRM-protected HTML5 audio and video content from streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+. Keeping Widevine CDM updated ensures optimal playback performance and resolves potential errors.

Updating Widevine CDM in Chrome

Step 1: Open Google Chrome and type chrome://components/ into the address bar, then press ENTER.

Step 2: Scroll down to find Widevine Content Decryption Module.

Step 3: Click on the Check for update button under it.

Step 4: Observe the Status beneath the module. If it reads Component updated, the update was successful. If it says Component not updated, refresh the page and check the status again.

Step 5: Once the status shows Up-to-date, restart Chrome to apply the updates.

Updating Widevine CDM in Firefox

Step 1: Launch Mozilla Firefox and click on the menu button (three horizontal lines) located at the top-right corner.

Step 2: Select Add-ons and Themes from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: In the Plugins tab, click on the gear icon labeled Tools for all add-ons and choose Check for Updates.

Step 4: If updates for Widevine CDM are available, they will be downloaded and installed automatically.

Step 5: To enable automatic updates for the future, click on the Widevine CDM plugin, and set Allow automatic updates to On.

Updating Widevine CDM in Microsoft Edge

Step 1: Open Microsoft Edge and enter edge://components/ in the address bar, then press ENTER.

Step 2: Locate the Widevine Content Decryption Module in the list of components.

Step 3: Click on Check for update beneath it.

Step 4: If an update is available, it will be installed. Confirm that the Status reads Up-to-date.

Step 5: Restart Microsoft Edge to ensure the update takes effect.

Updating Widevine CDM should resolve any playback issues you may have encountered in Edge.

Updating Widevine CDM in Opera

Step 1: Open Opera browser and type opera://components into the address bar, then press ENTER.

Step 2: Find the Widevine Content Decryption Module in the list.

Step 3: Click on Check for update under it.

Step 4: Any available updates will be installed. Once updated, restart Opera to apply the changes.
