Where Winds Meet Long Wu quest: How to complete The Silent Assassin

Long Wu is one of the most important recurring NPCs in Where Winds Meet. He kicks off the Lost Chapter side story “The Silent Assassin,” ties into the Palace of Annals campaign, and reappears later in Moonveil Mountain and Jadebrook Mountain. Because his quest is gated by in‑game time, story progress, and even a dialogue “age check,” it is easy to think the quest is bugged or permanently missed.

This walkthrough focuses on how to find Long Wu at each stage, what to do if he tells you to come back after midnight, and how the quest connects to the main story.

Where to find Long Wu at General’s Shrine (quest start)

The Silent Assassin begins in Qinghe, at General’s Shrine. This is one of the earliest Lost Chapter quests you can encounter.

Step 1: Fast travel to the General’s Shrine Boundary Stone in Qinghe, then ride or run north to the shrine complex itself. The structure is small, with a central building and surrounding walls.

Step 2: Enter the shrine grounds and look up at the main building. Long Wu appears lounging on the left side of the roof. Use your movement skills to climb or jump up to him and start the conversation.

Long Wu is not guaranteed to spawn the first time you arrive. Leaving the area and returning later in the day can make him appear. Once you reach him, exhaust all dialogue options until he sends you away and mentions meeting again after Hai hour.

Hai hour timing and why Long Wu “disappears” after midnight

Long Wu expects to meet you again after Hai hour, which in Where Winds Meet corresponds to around 23:00 in‑game time, effectively late night after 11 PM.

Step 1: Open the in‑game Time menu from the main menu (ESC) using the clock icon in the upper right. Move the time forward to Hai hour (around 23:00) instead of waiting in real time.

Step 2: Once it is Hai hour, return to General’s Shrine. Do not only check the roof. Long Wu relocates from the rooftop to a more hidden spot near the walls of the shrine.

Several players miss him here because he is no longer in the obvious rooftop position. Walk the perimeter of the main building and walls, especially the left side and corners of the house, and look for an interaction prompt.

At this stage, he typically brushes you off, tells you to go away, or implies you are too young to be involved. The quest log may appear to stop here, which leads many to believe they are locked out. In practice, this early encounter mainly sets up his later appearance in Moonveil Mountain and does not decide the final outcome of The Silent Assassin.

The “I’m 16” dialogue and whether the quest is locked

Long Wu can ask your character’s age during the early interaction. Choosing that you are 16 leads him to say you are too young and send you away. Players often assume this permanently fails the side story.

In practice, the age dialogue only affects the flavor of that scene. Long Wu remains part of the story later:

  • He still appears tied to the Palace of Annals campaign.
  • The Silent Assassin continues from the Moonveil Mountain segment onward once the main story reaches that area.

If you picked the “16 years old” option, continue playing the main story. Long Wu’s later appearances are what actually drive The Silent Assassin forward.

How The Silent Assassin connects to the Palace of Annals campaign

After the initial General’s Shrine phase, The Silent Assassin goes quiet until you reach Moonveil Mountain and the Palace of Annals in the main story. Long Wu’s side story and the campaign are intertwined but do not require perfect sequencing to function.

Key points:

  • The Palace of Annals campaign brings you to Moonveil Mountain and the Hall of Seasons.
  • Long Wu is involved in that campaign and appears along your path near the Front Mountain Boundary Stone, across from the Hall of Seasons.
  • Even if you skipped earlier interactions with him, meeting him at the Palace of Annals does not break the side story. The Silent Assassin can resume from the Moonveil segment.
Tip: If Long Wu does not show a clear side quest marker, progress the Palace of Annals questline first. Once that is complete or near completion, return to the Hall of Seasons approach and look for him again.

Meeting Long Wu at Moonveil Mountain (Hall of Seasons)

Once the main story opens Moonveil Mountain, you can pick The Silent Assassin back up by finding Long Wu near the Hall of Seasons.

Step 1: Fast travel to the Front Mountain Boundary Stone near the Palace of Annals and Hall of Seasons area in Moonveil Mountain.

Step 2: Follow the stairs leading up toward the Hall of Seasons. A watchtower on the way can fire arrows at you, so either sprint past, dodge its shots, or briefly deal with any threats on the path.

Step 3: At the top of the initial ascent, you will encounter thieves. You can fight them or dash past to reach the next staircase. Long Wu waits near this upper section of stairs.

Step 4: Talk to Long Wu until his dialogue repeats. He asks about an item that reveals the truth behind a legend. When prompted, show him the Buddha’s Light Jade – Yang.

Handing over Buddha’s Light Jade – Yang is the main trigger that advances The Silent Assassin at this stage. Long Wu then explains he has accepted a contract to kill Tian Ying, the legendary assassin connected to the Breeze Post incident, and invites you to meet again on Jadebrook Mountain.

How to get Buddha’s Light Jade – Yang

Buddha’s Light Jade – Yang is not a random collectible; it comes from a main story encounter tied to the Palace of Annals.

Step 1: Progress the Palace of Annals campaign until you face the boss Lucky Seventeen as part of that story arc.

Step 2: Defeat Lucky Seventeen. Buddha’s Light Jade – Yang is obtained during this portion of the campaign. There is no separate side quest for the item; it is a natural reward of clearing that boss.

Step 3: Once you have Buddha’s Light Jade – Yang in your inventory, return to Long Wu at the Hall of Seasons approach in Moonveil Mountain and present it when he asks for the object tied to the legend.

After he examines the relic, Long Wu confirms his target is Tian Ying and lays out his plan to pursue the assassin toward Jadebrook Mountain.

Following Long Wu to Jadebrook Mountain

The last phase of The Silent Assassin takes place in Qinghe’s Jadebrook Mountain area. Long Wu goes ahead to confront Tian Ying and asks you to meet him there to learn the truth behind the legend.

Step 1: Travel to Sundara Land and make your way to the Jadebrook Mountain region in Qinghe. The quest marker directs you toward a waterfall with a cave entrance nearby.

Step 2: Approach the waterfall and climb to higher ground above or beside it. This upper ledge is where the story resolution happens.

Step 3: On the high ground, you find Long Wu badly wounded. Interact with him and go through all dialogue lines. He explains what happened with Tian Ying, revealing the truth behind the assassin’s legend and the Breeze Post incident.

Once the final conversation ends and Long Wu’s fate is sealed, The Silent Assassin side story completes.

Rewards and progression impact

Completing The Silent Assassin grants a mix of combat and exploration rewards. These include Echo Jade, Zhou Coins, character experience, Enlightenment Points, and Qinghe Exploration points. You also obtain a Dark Surge fragment called “A Man Who Never Existed” and an Oscillating Jade from one account of the rewards breakdown.

The quest is not required to finish the main narrative, but it contributes to 100 percent completion in Qinghe and fills in important story context around Tian Ying and the Breeze Post incident. Because Long Wu is also tied into other missions, resolving his arc helps keep later interactions coherent.

When Long Wu seems to vanish, the cause is usually timing, his changed position around the shrine, or main story progress, not a permanent lockout. Treat the General’s Shrine meeting as the prologue, advance the Palace of Annals campaign until Moonveil Mountain opens, and follow his trail through the Hall of Seasons to Jadebrook Mountain. As long as those milestones are hit, The Silent Assassin side story can be brought to a close, even if the early age dialogue did not go the way you expected.
